Any Questions About Montclair State?

If there are any questions about Montclair State University, please just post a new thread and I'll be checking in frequently to help answer them as best as I can. You can find out a great deal of information about the University by checking out our website <a href="http://www.montclair.edu">www.montclair.edu</a>, or by coming to campus for a University Tour or Open House!

What are looking for in a transfer student? What is your average GPA for admittance? Are race/ethnicity considered? Do SAT/ACT still matter, if so what are looking for from a transfer in this regard?

How would you compare yourself to Rutgers?

Typically transfer students coming to Montclair State University have a 3.0 average GPA. This is an average, not a minimum requirement. Certain majors do have minimum GPA requirements, whether it is a 2.75 or a 3.0, and a full listing of these majors can be found on the Undergraduate Admissions website. We conduct a holistic review process for all students, so we look at all the materials submitted by the student when making a decision. If a transfer student has under 24 credits, then Montclair State University requires the student to submit SAT or ACT scores and the official high school transcript.

Hello Admin -

Can you provide info on the number of admits into the school’s program with UMDNJ?

Also, do the students receive any perks (i.e., housing, merit scholarships, etc) if fortunate enough to be admitted?

Thanks, in advance

Question: Do we need to use the Montclair form for transcripts?

My son’s high school has a protocol for submitting information to colleges. Upon request, the guidance office submits the high school profile, transcript and recommendations (counselors and up to 2 teacher recommendations). My question is:

Should we be printing the Montclair form, or is Montclair OK with our high school’s standard procedure of sending in the documents without the specific college cover sheets? Also, please confirm that you do not require teacher recommendations.

Thank you

I switched high schools my junior year, and have already applied to Montclair. Where it lists the requirements they still need it says “High School A Transcript(which will be getting there in the next few days) and High School B Transcript”. The high school that i am attending now has put my grades from my old school on my new transcript and it would really be a pain for me to have to contact my old school to get my transcript from there. I was just wondering if it is necessary to send both. Thank you

Come on MontclairStADM, i thought you were here to help

Please print out the Montclair State transcript form and attach it with the official high school transcript. The only recommendation letter that Montclair State requires is from the student’s high school guidance counselor, but if the student has teacher recommendations those should be submitted as well.

The dual programs with UMDNJ are highly competitive, where we accept a limited number of applicants each year. Students that are admitted into these programs are well into the range of receiving merit-based scholarships, however there is no guarantee for those students to have housing on campus.

Why didn’t they receive my SAT scores online? I sent them about a month ago and on my application status, it says that they have not been received. Should I resend them or should I call someone or something?

Where exactly do I access the Montclair State transcript form to print out?

… anyone?

What can you tell us about Monclair’s business school program? Is there a specific area of business that you are known for? How are the opportunities for internships, and what type of job placement support is provided?

Can anyone tell me what an FR application status means. We know it means a decision has been made and a letter is in the mail, but what doe the codes really mean? Is is accepted, denied, waitlisted, deferred? Please help, we are going crazy waiting for a letter to come.

Hi! While the tuition deposit is nonrefundable, is the housing deposit refundable? I’m concerned about this because there’s a slight possibility that I might attend another school if I get off that school’s wait-list. Thanks in advance!

I am trying to apply to Montclair, but I find that the website is a little confusing. I sent in the cut-and-dry application that basically just says what I want to major in, and will be sending my transcripts, personal statement, SAT scores, and recommendations.

BUT I’m a little confused. I set my major as Biology on the application, but I REALLY want to do the 7-year accelerated medical program. I just don’t know what else I have to do…I feel like I’m missing something. Am I supposed to submit an application to the Honors Program now? Or wait until I’m accepted to Montclair? How do I tell them that I want to do the BS/MD program? I’m so confused on that, and it doesn’t seem to say it anywhere, straight-out, on the website…Help!

I don’t understand how to write the personal statement:

“Explain your reasons for seeking admission to Montclair State University, including what you believe are your academic strengths and interests. Be certain to explain any situations that may have had an impact, either positively or negatively, on your academic record. List significant activities in which you have participated, both in school and out of school.”

The question seems to ask for many things instead of just one main thing. How should I go about answering this? Do I answer all parts? Because it seems like a long essay…

If someone gets denied who chose a competitive major, such as business, is there a chance in the decision letter that person could get accepted without a major?

Does anyone know the early action admission rate for montclair? Can i obtain this information by calling the admissions office?

Imagine you have some chocolate bars which are 55% Cocoa and Some other chocolate bars that are 25% cocoa.?
If you melt them down and mix them together and end up with chocolate that is 49% cocoa , how many of each bar was used?

Can someone please help me with this math problem!
