Are there any malls or restaurants which are close enough that you can actually walk to from the campus? I heard its hard to get around without a car :(

Ilovethebeach - Nope, you’ll need a car to get to anything like that.

gwu, I would imagine that there are buses to Santa Monica and its fabulous Third Street Promenade.

and how about buses to the local Malibu malls and restaurants up north a bit on PCH?

Hello everyone, I just came across this thread and found it very helpful!
thanks to everyone!

I was just admitted and had a few questions myself…
I’m looking to be an art major and I was wondering how is the art program? Are people usually successful in art after wards?
What are the religion classes like? Is it more historical , or specific to Christianity?
I hear sororities and fraternities provide a lot of activities, will you be left out if you’re not in one?
Lastly I know this was somewhat covered but what are the people like, guys and girls?
Are the girls very preppy, is everyone into fashion and looks?

To anyone looking to apply, go for it!
My highest SAT was 1680 (1720 combined best), cumulative gpa of 3.8 weighted. Various clubs and sports. I think the essay and recs really count, be HONEST. Talk about why Pepperdine will help you, where you are in spirituality.

JohnAdams12 - i’ve never heard of anyone taking a bus to Santa Monica, but campus shuttles are available to trips to the Ralph’s shopping center across the street from campus.

barefootncrazy - Hello there! Congrats on your admission to Pepperdine. I’m going to tryyy to answer your questions to the best of my ability.

I’m looking to be an art major and I was wondering how is the art program? Are people usually successful in art after wards?
I’ve only heard great things about it. The annual art shows on campus are always a huge hit and the students are extremely talented. I don’t know much in-depth info about the program, unfortunately.

What are the religion classes like? Is it more historical, or specific to Christianity?
There are three required: Old Testament, New Testament and basically one comparative religions. I haven’t taken them yet, but I’ve heard it depends on the teacher. Some teach from more of a historical perspective, others will expect students to know the basics, etc. One must realize, though, that the first sentences in Pepperdine’s mission statement are "As a Christian university, Pepperdine affirms that God is. …that He is uniquely revealed through Christ. That’s what professors, and most students, believe here.

I hear sororities and fraternities provide a lot of activities, will you be left out if you’re not in one?
30% of the student body goes Greek, so I doubt the other 70% feels left out. I definitely recommend it if you enjoy an active social life though!

Lastly I know this was somewhat covered but what are the people like, guys and girls?
Just like at any other college, you’ll find a variety of people. I’ve noticed Pepperdine is noticeably more preppy, athletic, conservative, etc than other secular universities, but nothing overbearing.

Are the girls very preppy, is everyone into fashion and looks?
Nope. Some girls are, some aren’t. Just like everywhere else. For the most part though, Pepperdine girls are gorgeous!

gwugirl, ha!..you just got about 1/2 dozen boys to send in their deposits to Pepperdine

Does having a grandparent who works at Pepperdine help your chances of getting admitted as a transfer? Also, what if you volunteer at Pepperdine in one of their programs does that help?

I’m honestly not sure if either of those helps, but volunteering is always good on a resume!

Can u guys chance me? Should I even plan to apply?

Hi I’m really curious about the merit scholarships at Pepperdine University but haven’t really found much information on them. I know there is one for 26k and 22k, but are there any others?
And if you received any of these merit scholarships, what were your sats?
Also, if anyone knows, what are the deadlines to apply for music or theater scholarships?

Thank you so much!!

Hi! I’m currently a junior, but I’m trying to get my college stuff figured out as much as possible this year because I’m planning to major in theater.
Over break, I have been doing a lot of Pepperdine research, and I’m hoping to get as much financial aid as I can. My mom is a Pepperdine alum (she got her doctorate there), do you think that would help my chances of getting in? Also, do they give tuition discounts for that?

I have q’s about the merit scholarships in this thread. please help if you can

I live in Tennessee and it’s all about ACT. Do I have to take the SAT also to get in to Pepperdine. And what is a good ACT score I should shoot for that Pepperdine accepts?

I am a Freshman in High School and I know you all will be saying that I need to enjoy High School but I can’t help but look at Pepperdine and feel pretty stoked if in three years I were to receive a letter of acceptance from there.

I know that I am an “innocent Freshman” and that this year is often the easiest and that it gets a ton harder, but if Pepperdine only accepted Freshman in High School how would I compare? In the next four years, what needs to happen? I won’t be taking Calculus by Senior Year so that will probably hurt me. Any tips?

You can change majors by just emailing them? So if I accept to go there, I can just email them now to ask to switch before I even get there? I’m a senior in college and just got admitted.
