SweetTea - All I know about the theatre and television major is it’s by audition only.

Thanks gwu. Looking at the theater department page it appears to have what my D is wanting but there is not much discussion about Pepperdine on the theater forums. I was hoping someone from the department would chime in on the program. She attended a summer program at Pepperdine and really liked the campus but we will have to return for a visit and check out the department and hopefully get to talk to some students.

I have some friends who were/are in the theater department at Pepperdine, and they all seemed to really enjoy it. And the student productions that I’ve seen were all very well done. And theater majors generally can’t go overseas during the school year (due to requirements that they have on campus), but they do have a summer program in London and Edinburgh that I’ve heard great things about. That’s about the extent of my knowledge.

Are parties non existent at Pepperdine?

Thanks ennaxor. D is planning on applying and hopefully she can visit with some of the theater students. She likes musical theater but thinks she would rather pursue theater with television/film emphasis. Who knows she may wind up going for a ba for musical theater somewhere. I do think she would like California better than the northeast. If anyone else has information please let us know.

can anyone chance me ?

Im from New Jersey and am starting to seriously consider pepperdine…i know its very good academically but im just worried about the feeling of being homesick/far away…does the surrounding area help keep students busy besides the amount of work given by professors

matt, when you feel homesick, especially during the winter, just call home and get the weather, probably in the 30 degree range. Then walk outside your dorm and take in the 70 degree weather while you get a 2 minute ride to the beach. Then take a walk on the beach. Settle down and do some of your required reading while laying on a blanket in the beach, with the beautiful sound of the waves in the background.

Chance me?

ok i was just accepted but i am not entirely sure about the major i applied to. how hard is it to change majors? can i change to a theatre major if i audition?

how is seaver college’s reputation nationally? sorry if it’s little bit vague…

well I forgot to add…how’s the ‘communication program’ of Seaver College reputed?

MedalLily - You can change majors by e-mailing them before you even get here if you so choose. I remember that I did it. I’m not sure about how theatre auditions work, but I’m sure you can if you don’t declare until later.

aznfromva - Pepperdine is generally seen as a tier 1/top 50 school, though the current rankings may not reflect that (don’t read too much into rankings, they’re highly subjective.) It has an excellent reputation in Southern California as an academically competitive school.
Of the 8 students who received Fulbright scholarships from the state of California this year, 2 were from Pepperdine. Considering how many universities there are in the state, that is huge.
I’m glad you ask about the com division! What major are you interested in? I’m in the com division as a journalism major. It’s absolutely WONDERFUL. The professors are amazing and become very close with their students. They are very passionate about their jobs. All com division majors have to take core classes in communication. Every class I’ve taken toward my major so far has been outstanding.
The com division is also the largest at Pep.

I’m interested in advertising…

Ok how easy is it to change you major in general during the school year? Can you double major?

I just got my acceptance letter, through email… and I was wondering, when do the scholarships come out? Should it have been included in the email, if I had received one?!

is pepperdine an open minded campus? like do they accept gay people like me? haha It’s a nice school i just didn’t know how strict it is so anyone wanna give me insight?

aznfromva - We have an excellent advertising major and I know several people in it who absolutely rave about their classes.

MedalLily - You can change your major at practically any time throughout the year, but you really won’t need to declare until your junior year if you’re not sure. You will probably take mostly GEs your freshman year and go abroad soph. year.
