Any Questions about UCSD?

My advisor came back to me and said that CSE 8A/8AL is open only to majors.
I didn’t see this mentioned under the course description for CSE 8A, but for CSE 11 the major only restriction was there.
Can someone confirm/deny if CSE 8A is open to all student or for CSE majors only?

I asked a question on the e-advising page. How do I know it went through? I heard that it shows up on the bottom, but that didn’t happen for me…

It’ll tell you that your question has been sent. If it doesn’t show up, it hasn’t. The first time I submitted a question, it didn’t show up (but I didn’t know yet) and I waited for the longest time and got no answer so I submitted again and it did show up on the bottom. Should look like this:

I was wondering if you could recommend any PofC class to take for my first quarter as a freshman? Someone suggested psych60 and Phil10, what do you think about those? preferred professors?

also, how is Chem6A?

Any recommendation for ABSOLUTE essentials (or at least really nice to have) for the average dorming freshman? maybe printers, fridges etc…

@peepsican

It depends on what PofC you want. Would you rather take 6 classes is psychology or philosophy? And Chem 6A isn’t easy but it’s not overly hard either.

@orangeicecream: If I remember correctly, you sign up for summer session after fall quarter classes

@marcusjhung: printer, fridge, laundry hamper/detergent (I recommend Purex 3 in 1 because it’s a laundry sheet so there’s no measuring and it’s very compact), personal hygiene stuff, clothes, pillow, blankets, school supplies, laptop, shower caddy, towel… you can always buy stuff at walmart or target if you forget something!

This might sounds dumb but I have to ask it anyway. Is every single class a quarter long? It doesn’t indicate so or otherwise in anything that I have read so far on CC OR TritonLink.

^Yep. Some freshmen seminars may be shorter though.

i took two chem labs that required the completion of 5 experiments over the course of the quarter – some people took the full 10 weeks, others finished at week 6 and didn’t have to go to class after that :)

@ $KingsElite$ what do you mean 6 classes? and i dont know which PofC i should take first? any suggestions?

I am planning to have a class right after another class…

WLH 2111 —> CENTR 105

Is 10minutes a reasonable time to make it between classes? Would I need to like walk fast in order to “just” make it in time?

^Yeah, you’ll make it fine.

@peepsican

There’s no order you have to take your PofCs in. And the 6 classes is the length of each PofC. You can’t both psychology and philosophy for one PofC, the classes can only come from one department.

Thanks for reply :)

Do you think
HSS 1128A –> WLH 2204
is pushing it a bit for 10min walk?

yeah, it’s not going to be an easy one. i had to go from the big lecture hall (2250) down to warren and could barely make it on time. if you’re starting from the lower level of HSS, you’re going to spend at least 90 more seconds fighting your way upstairs.

how is HIAF112 for a freshman? there was no upper division prereq for this.

@Marking

Yeah probably, but normally it’s ok to be a tad bit late.

It’s a friday discussion class that i’ll be racing too… Maybe it won’t be too bad, guess I can always drop my class if it doesn’t work out.

My currently planned schedule is comprised of three classes: Chem6A, Math20B and Physics1A+1AL. I am wondering if I should pepper in one more GE/PofC/English Writing as to alleviate the workload from upcoming quarters and years.

there’s no harm in adding another class. you can always drop it if you need to.
