Any Questions about UCSD?

Help please —Incoming freshman for EE- My registration window opens on Sept 3rd but one of my recommended classes ECE 15 ( Just has one section) is already full with a wait list > 10. What do I do? I wAS planningto go with the classes recommended by academic counselling but looks like that is not possible. Should I put myself on the wait list and hope for the best. Is it advisable to sign up for a 5th class just in case I don’t get into ECE 15. I read somewhere that Freshman need to get permission to register for 20 credits - is that true. Should I call someone in the ECE dept? I thought the dept would plan well enough to ensure all freshman would be able to enroll in this basic ECE course.

@ Nikhila - we’re not the pharmacy school, nor are we admissions. i highly recommend their website: [UC San Diego - The Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences](http://pharmacy.ucsd.edu/)

Well I ended up taking the placement courses, even though I was days after the “deadlines.” Do they actually look at when I took the placement exams though? I forgot they were supposed to be taken by a certain time lol It shouldn’t cause any problems right?

Is Direct Deposit really that essential? The deadline is like friday, but I don’t have a bank account :/

no. you’ll get a check in the mail if you don’t have direct deposit.

@astrina

I know how to forward messages on gmail to another e-mail account :frowning:
I just don’t know how to forward messages on my UCSD emails to my gmail (automatically)…
Sorry if my wording was confusing

@greenfield
I thought they would plan better to fit all the EE major students in the class too…
But I guess it wouldn’t throw you off schedule that much…

go to http://www.ece.ucsd.edu/node/15</a>
Click the

Maybe you could sign up for ECE 25 instead, although that class is full too but the waitlist for one of the classes is only 1 for 24 students. (Hopefully you can get into this one)

Make sure to check pre-requisites with this web page:
http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/courses/ECE.html</a></p>

Also when planning schedules for future quarters… Make sure the class is available on that quarter too:
http://www.ece.ucsd.edu/schedule</a></p>

I guess it wouldn’t hurt to contact the ECE department about ECE 15 and ask them about it.

@ Marking- did you try google? the first link for “how to forward ucsd email to gmail” seems straightforward enough.

On average, how many APs should be taken to get into UCSD? I have a friend who is only taking one her whole 4 years of high school and wants to get into UCSD.

I’ve had friends came in with junior standing and others who came in with 8 units. (the latter is now an MD/PhD student at UCSF)

Thank you very much astrina :slight_smile: Forgot to use google first, been having a hard time searching specific stuff on google recently.

Should I sign up for TRIP? I already have Direct Deposit and my parents will probably be able to pay the full amount that is currently listed. Also, the number that is the current balance… is that just for this upcoming quarter, without financial aid? The financial aid $ will be deposited automatically into my checking acct because I signed up for DD, right?

and astrina: You may not/probably won’t be able to answer this question, but… Your friend who is currently a UCSF MD/PhD student - do you know what their stats were like (how they did at UCSD) and what sort of activities they were involved in? (Out of curiosity)

Thank you!

Does UCSD Polisci not have a four year plan? I’ve tried finding it, but it seems to be one of the few majors that doesn’t.

not every department offers it since it’s not college-specific, but look on your college’s website instead. they’ll have it.

Does anyone know if McAllister is going to teach Mus 4 Intro to Western Music again? I can’t find the teacher for that class anywhere! :(

A note about the UCSD Fraternity System:

Speaking from personal experience, do not expect your pledging experience to be as absurd as in Movies but expect to be “pledged”.

What I mean by this is that your experience will be in no ways “easy”, although different from chapter to chapter and fraternity to fraternity, dont expect to be treated out like the sorority girls at this school.

When pledging a “MULTI-CULTURAL” greek organization. I can say, good luck, and you will find out on your own if your heart is in it.

You must remember that in the end, most of the active brothers have good intents for you (although some will not).

How is the pass/no pass option perceived by others? Is it looked down upon, or do students use it as much as possible? Do we have the ability to change the grading options later on (say, mid-quarter)?

you can change the grading option up until 4th week…i think. haha sorry

@Jkl1492

Also just to note, only 25% of your classes can be taken for P/NP.

how much time do you have per enrollment appointment?

^There’s no time limit. You can keep changing your classes until the end of Week 2.
