Seems like every website I’ve visited for cheaper textbooks (amazon, half, chegg, and more) only carries the text for MATH 20C (Rogawski), and I can’t find a separate questionnaire. The class requires both, as well as a 3-book bundle for multivariable.

I just realized the billing for “Qtrly Install DBL Rm+Dining” is $3846.00, and I know that we get charged more if we’re in a Single later on, which I am, so that means it’ll cost more than that. But on this page [UC San Diego Housing Rates and Services](http://hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/value.asp) it says the total is $10986 for a single… Am I missing something? I’m assuming they’ll charge the $3846 (actually more since I have a single?) 3 times for the fall, winter and spring, but then that would be more than $10986. Can anyone clear this up? My parents are kind of freaking out about this discrepancy in costs because they were trying to budget this early on.

@spacedog, I think the 3846 is with the $650 housing prepayment included. if you subtract 650 from 3846, you get 3196. then if you add the $21 admin charge, you get 3217, which is what you should be charged fall quarter for a double :)

Edit: They’ll eventually take off the 650. that’s what happened to me.

for textbooks, we can go to the bookstore and just buy them on the spot right? it isn’t likely to get backordered? I’d rather get to campus to buy one of my MMW bundles so there’s no shipping cost. plus, they throw in an atlas of questionable worth :D

just curious: if i have a discussion on Thursdays, and classes begin on a Thursday, can I just not attend that section (first day only)? I mean what are we gonna discuss?

also, I think KingsElite and ucsd915 can answer these questions respectively:
how likely is it that i’ll be attending cogs 1 discussion throughout the quarter?
how likely is it that i’ll be attending discussion for mmw 1 if I have Carter?

So I’ve got a teacher for Calculus named Minnes Kemp, Mor Mia (that’s what it says). And this teacher is not on ratemyprofessors.com nor does anyone I know know of this teacher.
Has anyone taken a class with this Minnes Kemp, Mor Mia? I’d like to have some feedback.

@92faim
Yes you can go to the bookstore, you don’t need to reserve them really. In terms of your discussion I would go in case the TA’s show up and pass out the class syllabus. If they don’t show up within a few minutes I would bail… and even if they show up, extras will probably be available on the first day of lecture, but hey :P

To try and aid you in your other questions, I had a friend in Cogs 1 who had a strong A after the final, but when participation factored in he dropped a whole letter grade. Not sure if discussion factored in there, but depending on this quarter’s version of the course you might have to go to discussion.

In terms of writing discussions, although I took CAT, going to discussion was crucial and factored out into your grade via reading quizzes/participation (occurred in DOC and Muir Writing as well). If MMW is anything like other college writing courses I would strongly recommend going to discussion.

Hope that helps until they get to your question too.

@samoo

That professor is most likely new; if you want to know for sure, go find the course in the schedule of classes tab on tritonlink and look over the evaluations for that course and see if your professor shows up.

Thanks again Schw1ng! Yup, that definitely helped a lot.

another question: what’s the difference between paying by e-check vs. Direct Deposit?

Direct Deposit is linking your savings/checking account to UCSD’s so you can route money into their account online and vice versa right? Whereas an e-Check is just using up a check to pay your bill online? If I don’t enroll in Direct Deposit, can I just write an e-check everytime my TRIP bill comes in? because people have made it sound so inconvenient to not have Direct Deposit, but I see it only being marginally more convenient. It’s not like we end up receiving paper bills or having to mail paper checks; we can just pay via e-check right? It’s just a sacrifice of 3 checks per academic year?

I was thinking of not going to college w/ a credit card just yet, that’s why.

I think direct deposit is just receiving money from the school (like refunds, surplus credit etc) directly into your account instead of waiting for a check via mail. I don’t believe it deals with actually paying for school.

An e-check withdraws from an account you specify (and can save the details for) and pays the outstanding balance to your student account.

So the difference is direct deposit isn’t a payment option.

Ohhh ok thank you for clearing that up! I thought it was a payment option in addition to the refund/reimbursement aspect. but it’s just for refunds/reimbursement, basically.

when they say I get 10% off all Dining Hall purchases using Triton Cash, they’re not referring to my Dining Dollars are they? so if I wanted the 10% off, I’d have to use my Triton Cash and not my Dining Dollars?

KingsElite it said a few times in an email and on one page from a while back but really it’s all been a blur sort of lol My friend’s reading it but it’s never said it’s mandatory, just that a speaker at orientation is going to go over it or something. I don’t know if I’ll end up reading it though. What a way to start off the year haha Nah but seriously I don’t think it’s a big deal
