Any Questions about UCSD?

How do you pronounce La Jolla?

^la-hoya 10 char

What do kids do on their free time usually? It seems that school is lacking of party scenes…its not that im partyholic whatsoever, but i just wonder if there are any social activies happening?

Not at UCSD.
The first part may be true for some super easy schools.
The second part is universally false.

You will always find something to do if you are bored. If you join any clubs or organizations, they always have social events like ice skating or some random activities. During the first week of fall, there are tons to do, so you will never be bored. There are dances like the RAVES, All Campus Dance, Luminance, Non-Sexist dances , etc throughout the year as well as concerts. This year we had New Boyz, Daphne Loves Derby, The White Tie Affair, The Game, Amerberlin come perform! And the anticipated SunGod Festival… If you find your right group of friends, you can always chill at the beach, go get tacos at the taco shop (open 24 hours) at 12am or whenever. People just go explore the city and San Diego, go shopping in UTC, Mission Valley, fashion Valley, grocery shopping at LaJolla Village Square…lasertagging…there’s tons to do. Yeah basically people just hang out with their friends. Join a frat/sorority if you wanna party every week lol

Math 10B. I never did the homework, I never studied, all I did was show up to class and section and take notes. I showed up to the final without any studying and missed 1 problem. I got an A in the class. It was beyond easy. There are classes at UCSD that require very little to get an A.

thanks…how about students playing sports? do many students play sports during their free time? I myself enjoy playing basketball…is there a gym that students can use 24/7 (or freely when opened)? and do students gather together to play often also?

@aznfromva: Yes, people join Intramural sports like volleyball, basketball, soccer, etc and compete with other teams. There are many basketball, volleyball…etc courts all around campus and Rimac Gym is there for recreational purposes. People like to play whenever they have free time. Right now, during finals week… I see so many people play volleyball and basketball because there are no classes lolo

Wow thanks to Clarkfobes for starting this thread because a lot of things i didn’t even think about, but were important, were answered. I had some questions of my own as well:

1) I got accepted with a major in Psychology in ERC and i was wondering if this a good college to fulfill my GE’s (I will try to change to a biological sciences major, so will ERC fulfill these GE’s easily too?)?
2) What are some other colleges that are good for a Pyschology or Biological sciences major?
3) How hard would it be to switch from a Psychology major to a Biological Sciences major?
4) Is it possible to switch between colleges?

What is the attitude at UCSD concerning gay people? Are there alot? Are there ever any incidents of hate crimes?

@pestilence10

 1. Should be fairly average in pursuing a psychology/biological science major, but the thing about ERC is that there is a foreign language requirement and MMW (the good thing for you is that they changed it to 3 courses instead of 6 courses for the class of 2014) so you need to take more GE’s than other colleges.
 2. Muir/Warren/Sixth/Marshall have easier GE’s in general so its just easier to finish your classes sooner
 3. It would be hard if the biological science major you want is impacted, but if it isn’t, you just change it online
 4. It is really really hard to change colleges because you need to find someone to switch spots with you and you maintain good grades for your first year to show that you can handle the GEs of the other college and they need to see that you will graduate sooner if you change to another college – but that will probably take a year to change so it would be pointless…

@stpatricks14:
UCSD has the largest LGBT center of all the UC’s and is for the most part really welcoming to the LGBT community. There are different organizations for LGBT students like QPOC (Queer People of Color) and there are always campus events like LGBT week to promote LGBT awareness. The LGBT center hosts a Non-Sexist dance almost every quarter and those parties are lots of fun and can get crazy lol. And NO there have not been any anti-gay hate crimes that I know of (unlike the one at UC Davis). Everyone is mostly accepting and diverse. Overall, UCSD welcomes LGBT students. :D

how is the neuroscience/physiology program at ucsd? - that’s what I got accepted into

I got accepted to UCSD with a major in Bioengineering-Biotech (Marshall College)
Is it hard or not?
Which dorm should I choose?

@darknnaaznguy: go here: [Physiology and Neuroscience Major - Division of Biological Sciences - UC San Diego](http://biology.ucsd.edu/undergrad/majors/PN05.html)
biological sciences is pretty good at ucsd, but as always difficult and competitive

Is there a way to find out how many points you got if you were accepted? I only see people posting their points when they were waitlisted or denied :(

@seniorsf: Bioengineering is highly ranked at UCSD, but as always it is a difficult and competitive major. Would’ve been better if you go into Warren because they GE’s are easier, but Marshall GEs aren’t that bad. Um… You can’t choose what residence hall you live in, but you can decide if you want a single, triple, or double room, who you want to live with (roommate request) and if you want to live in a res hall or an apartment.

@spacedog: Those who were waitlisted know their points because they called UCSD to see why they were waitlisted. You can find out how many points you got if you call UCSD, but why would you want to know?? You got accepted!! It doesn’t matter how many points you got, the point is that you were ACCEPTED :D

lol Thanks for the answer. I just wanted to see how close I was. I called earlier saying I was accepted and they said they wouldn’t tell me my score. lol I’ll just call again and not say anything about getting accepted. Which do you need, your name, app number, or student id?

@spacedog: You probably (I haven’t called before) just need your name, UC app #, and anything else they ask for.

@clarkfobes

Thanks for the fast reply!=D
I hope you don’t mind if I ask another question=p
Can you describe what an average day is like at ucsd?
