I submitted the Housing Application but it didn’t say anything about choosing which room yet. Do I get an email some time later about which room I’d like to choose only after I submit my SIR?

Why would they let you choose a room if you haven’t even committed to attending the university?

It’s an application so I assume when one applies to something like housing, you can choose a room because it’s an application for housing.

It’s in the housing contract that you get after you SIR. What would be the efficiency in asking a bunch of people who aren’t going to go to their university where they would want to room? The housing application gives priority to those who submit it first when choosing dorms and rooms, that is all.

Hello!

I’ll be attending UCSD next year as a Bioengineering: Biotechnology major in Muir college, and, though I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, I am curious about double majoring. I have heard that often times companies would rather hire a more conventional MechE, EE or ChemE major than a Beng major, and this worries me. I am still wholeheartedly interested in Bioengineering, but does anyone know what additional double majors/minors would be possible to graduate in four years with? I’ve considered CS, Chemistry, Math, or a minor in EE, all of which I consider myself very interested in.

Thanks for your help.

Honestly if you plan on double majoring you’re probably going to have to stay more than four years, especially with the majors you listed there (they have tons of requirements). This is true even if you’re in Muir.

I would imagine companies, especially in the biotech hub of San Diego, would be more than happy accepting bioengineering majors. However, I don’t know too much about the subject, so I suggest you find a reliable source who can tell you the truth.

If you really want, make a four year plan with 4-5 classes a quarter and see if it fits.

Good luck!

I’ve never tried to lay out a course plan for myself before. Do I just take the sum total of all classes I will need to take, minus overlaps, and see if that will fit into 4-5 courses per quarter?

Thank you very much for your help!

Here’s an example course plan the school already planned out for you:

Bioengineering
HSS= Gen Ed class

Muir doesn’t have that many GE’s, and depending on your AP credits you might have fewer than 10.

If you major in Math you have to take an additional 13 classes. You have to take even more in you double in CS.

Still, from the looks of it a double major in 4 years is not plausible. Whether you want to spend the extra time for a double major is up to you.

How do the college requirements work as a transfer? I got into ERC for Computer Science and from what I gather, beside my major requirements, I must take two classes in ERC’s flagship course, as well as some sort of ethnic/sex/women class… Is that correct? Or are transfers upheld to all the requirements of the college?

Also, how difficult is it to find an apartment within walking distance to campus?

Lastly, how accommodating is the campus in regards to those who wish to smoke a cigarette? And I hear there is a pub on campus as well. I assume they serve alcohol but what are the hours and do they provide smoker accommodations? As in, a patio where one could take their drink to enjoy with their cigarette.

Thanks.

I’m sure no one will care if you smoke at Porter’s, I don’t know if you’re technically allowed to or not.

What’s the best housing option for transfer students? Does anyone recommend living in the Village or off-campus? I would really like to live near the campus. Have a car but not sure if I should bring it (parking permit’s expensive, worried for parking spots, etc).

Will getting one C- rescind my ucsd admission?

i received it in a semester long junior year math class (0.5 credits), but i hope the UC’s will count it as C just like they did to calculate the GPA.

Here’s the thing though, they dont know it’s a C minus because on the application you don’t use those, but in the requirement it says to be elegible for credit you must pass with a “C” or higher and what constitutes a “C”?

Do you know if i will still get credit for it? Anyway im taking another math class senior year so if it doesnt count i would at least have 3.5 credits, but should i contact the office or anything?

I’m panicking big time!! thx

Dude, don’t double-post.

How hard will it be to double major in Bioengineering: Biotech & Economics in Muir College?

Econ’s a popular add-on major for those who want to double major. We can’t predict how you’ll handle the increased courseload. But you should make your own finish-in-four/five/etc plan and see how well you’ll be able to stick to it.

google “motorcycle parking ucsd”

lots of information there, permit prices vary depending on how often you’re riding

Probably not, but I’d personally feel better if I sent another one to the correct address.

I already got a 4 on the AP English Literature test, can I get credit for the AP English language test? I’m in Sixth college. I looked at their acceptance of AP tests and it’s a bit confusing. They say:

English
Either test: Satisfies Entry-Level Writing requirement and earns 8 units elective credit (8 units maximum for both tests).

Does that mean that you can only get credit for one test? If so, that’d be a load off my back.

Sorry, I don’t know if I can ask this here since it’s only about the summer freshmen orientation but here i go:

My dad doesn’t want to do the family orientation because when he went to my sister’s he didn’t find the information of any use to him nor did my brother who went w/ him on the orientation at my sister’s school.

I was about to submit my orientation session thing but it says under SAME DAY FAMILY SESSION: YES and I can’t change it. The site for Marshall said they recommend or prefer that families attend the orientation session which should imply that the orientation is optional.
I asked my sister and I was looking at the family session info which is separate from the student session info. I accidentally clicked to the register tab and it said that the reservation for family can only be made after registration for student session.
If I submit my session reservation, does that mean that I submit one for the family session? Or do get to do that separately later and can choose no?
(Sorry, I realize this is pretty confusing)

I’m not sure about doing the overnight thing either. can i get some opinions on that?
