Ah, the joys of living in non campus run buildings. Geez my head is spinning, Sahara East is a rat hole.

"Sahara East?"

Hookah bar in the city

A chain of them that is.

babababump!

Any more questions about cornell, or college life in general, guys?

Do you like college better than high school, and by how much? What is the most notable difference?

SAHARA EAST sucks and so does LUXOR CAFE

College is far better than high school.

demsoc: In a word, "yes!" I like college incomprehensibly more than high school.
The most notable difference academically is the choice of classes and random attendence times. You get to pick whatever you want to take (in arts and sciences; you still have some freedom in the other colleges, but you're specializing in a program you picked in the first place, so in a way you just exercised your academic path freedom before you started your freshman year in a college like engineering or architecture), and it's no longer "go to school, learn, go home." Everything from class to home to food to the store is close (it's like a miniature academic city) and your day will be something like:

wake up
go to a class or two
eat lunch
go to work for 2 hours
go to another class
do some HW/studying
go work out
chill
dinner
night lab for some science class
more HW/studying
midnight snack
sleep
(granted that would be a VERY full day, but you get the idea)

sociall the biggest difference is independence. You live on your own, set your own hours, pick your own activities, choose to go out when and to where you want, can drink or have girls in your bed without your parents being like "dubya tee eff?," etc.

what this all boils down to is that college is immensely better than high school!

Hi, I am a second semester freshman attending Purdue University in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Dept. I want to transfer to Cornells Hotel School. What do other students think about the hotel students. Purdue's HTM program is one of the the top three hotel schools. I was rejected as a freshman to the cornell hotel school. My first semester at purdue had 17 credits, GPA 3.82 ; second semester i am taking 21 credits almost sure i will get a 4.0. In honors program here. Im from Los Angeles. My high school GPA was a 3.5, will that kill my chances. Should I wait another year. The school says 30 precent of their graduating class at the hotel school are transfers. What are my chances??? Thanks.

end ur life

Sparticus, your typical day totally sucks man, my condolences.

i've been considering applying to cornell for a while now...i'm a high school junior

what do the adcoms look for specifically besides a 2200SAT or a 3.9UW

does anyone know nething about IRL??? i got in and wanna know how it is? is the courseload ok? I hear that they do a lot of interning and abroad. Any comments?

How the party scene for non-Greek members? Are there a lot of exclusive-ish parties, or are they pretty open?

Thanks (haha I'm hoping they're an improvement from HS parties, but that should naturally be true :-p )

the party scene for non-greek people is the greek scene lol, at least freshman year lol. during the first semester of freshman year no one can join a fraternity or sorority but everyone still goes to fraternity parties. sophomore year if you get your own place you can drink there. and junior/senior year is ruloffs, dunbars, johnny O's and all the other bars.

sweet thanks a lot

anyone have any other questions? I was gone from here for a little while but I'm back now.

I'm in ILR it isn't two bad. It is a lot of reading (ILR= I Love Reading). You can definitely balance the workload so I wouldn't worry especially freshman year.
