Any Questions? (and a look at my first semester)

welcome back sparticus!:)

blackferrari - your grade will not transfer, just the credit. Cornell is stingy about transfering college credits from high school students. If you send a UAlbany transcript with your hs transcript, they might not give you the credit. To avoid this, most people will send the UAlbany transcript in the spring semester after they've been at cornell for one semester.

So I get home all tipsy last night only to discover that I had been put on some sort of probation. Spanks still exists but I can't post. Spanks II it is.

what u do spanks? what did the probation say?

Nothing, at all. It just doesn't let me post. I didn't receive any type of message from an administrator. Whatever

For those in AEM, how difficult have you found it?

Thanks Gomestar, you're my hero!!! :) :) !!! I really didn't want to worry about transferring the grades (I really wanted a fresh start)... I know the credits transfer because other people from my school have transferred them, though I may send the transcript in the spring anyway. Ahhh, gomestar, that's the best thing I've heard in a long time, Thank You!

blackferrari2006: when is maynard coming? and when are you hitting up a hockey game again? I get back the 15th or 16th

Dude, Maynard is farting out on us (or so it appears--he IS like 900 yrs old... lol)... If I hear any differently, I will tell you. If tickets are available, could I just get you one? If you can not go, I will find someone else to go, but would you mind if I just bought you a ticket when they become available? The concerts have generally been in late January, so you would most likely be back at Cornell.

I am going to the Brown game and/or the Yale game (January 27th and or 28th, respectively). I am so pumped because I can get stuff now and not feel like I'm jynxing myself, hahaha.

how often do they come

is it hard to get tickets to see them

r there concert series at cornell like summerbash-something like that

Guest speakers are constantly at Cornell - everyone from renowned scientists like Robert H. Grubbs to drunken idiots like Tucker Max (no worries, I think he's cool). Tickets/seating depends on how popular the speaker is and how well it's publicized. Tucker Max was free to see, but tickets had to be purchased to see Whoopi Goldberg. Tucker Max filled up an hour before the speech. Lastly, the Cornell Concert Commision handles concerts - so far we've had Lifehouse and someone else who I don't remember. They're at: http://www.cornell-concert.com/

lifehouse, third eye blind, and collective soul. last year included mos def, common, snoop, and the game, for those of you noticing the lack of hip hop.

how easy is it to transfer bt schools?

whats the easiest major?

It's very easy to go to a more or equally general college: i.e. Hotel->Arts or Arts->Agg, respectively. It's more difficult to go the other way, as in Arts->Architecture, because the attributes of a successful archi student aren't that of your average successful highschooler, even though said HS student may have exceeded the archi student's stats with regard to SAT, for example. That's useless if you can't draw. However, if you're qualified for the other school within cornell, even if it's something specialized like archi, the administration has no motive to prevent you from making such a transfer. I'm just saying you can't be like "Actually, I feel like architecture..." and just expect them to let you study in the archi college. You'd need to submit a portfolio etc. Academically, though, in the traditional sense, if you're good enough for one college you're good enough for the others. It's specialized skills that make certain transfers difficult.

This is so subjective there's really no way to answer. A hotelie might have a hell of a time in Engineering Physics, but the brilliant English major with no social skills wouldn't have a prayer surviving the hotel school.

how hard is it to transfer between colleges?

when can you transfer? after 1st semester, 1st year,2nd year, or in the summer before school starts?

hi,

what did it take u to get admitted to college. i suppose you worked hard in high school? cuz cornell's not an easy place to get admitted. lol

abike11: transfer is not hard as long as you're not trying for a specialized college like architecture. You have to have the specialized skills in that case, but to transfer to a general college like CALS or CAS is easy. You can transfer after 1 semester.

kevster1001: a 1480 SAT I; 780W 770IIC, 650 Lit SAT IIs, and legacy. Don't worry about what it takes; just reach for your dreams. I didn't work that hard in HS, bus since arriving at cornell I've learned to work hard.

I just have a few questions about Cornell:
1. Do many people double major at Cornell?
2. Is it easy to double major across schools?
3. What do people do for fun on the weekends?

Knows11:

1.Many, many people double major. I myself am a double major: music and economics. Music and other arts double majors are very common, because students follow their passion, and a more practical degree. But as I said, it is very easy to double major at cornell.

Double majoring across schools is, I believe, a bit more difficult, but not forbidden. It requires cutting through a bit more administrative red tape, as, within a college, if you fill the requirements for two majors, well, congratulations, you have 2 B.A.s upon graduation.

Party at frats, play sports, movies on campus or in the off campus theaters, concerts ranging from Third Eye Blind to Snoop Dogg to Branford Marsalis, bowling next to my dorm, video games, chill, eat, sleep, watch hockey games, rock climb, go skiing at the nearby hill, traying down the slope, gorge jump when it's warm enough, go swimming (gorges or pool depending on time of year), ice skate. I've probably left out a bunch. But that covers what I THINK is the majority of things to do.

I added some more pictures I found to the album I linked to early on in the thread, including some of lynah rink at a hockey game, as well as Tucker Max speaking.
