Any questions for a current student?

@Maxxwell - definitely not me. Haha, although I wish! Thanks for the information!

Top 1% not determined purely by class rank. It is a combination of a number of factors including leadership potential.

Good to know. Thanks!

WA scholars applications were due in January unfortunately- principals were supposed to select students and give out the forms

What are the differences between the campuses??

Seattle campus is the main campus. It is big and beautiful and all research and NCAA action takes place here.

I donā€™t know much about Tacoma campus.

Bothell ā€œcampusā€ is not a typical campus. It is a commuter college. They have recently leased a couple of apartment buildings and claim them as campus housing. Cascadia Community college is also run in the same facility. It is a good place to get started for those who can not get into Seattle campus. It is a good place for grown ups thinking about career change or get a college degree while working.

Bothell is about 10 miles from Seattle campus.

Ohh. Thanks alot!

UW-Bothell is also the workplace of a receptionist who tore my heart out and ripped it in half.

I know that the autumn quarter begins September 29, 2010. So, when do we actually have to show up on campus, to move in and stuff?

Well this past year, classes started on Sept. 30 (Wed) and my move in day was Sept. 25 (Fri). Thereā€™s a welcome week called Dawg Daze with all kinds of activities for new students that is usually the week before classes start but for some reason this year was the same week that classes started (Sat-Fri with classes starting on Wed).

Thereā€™s also a two day orientation that you have to register for sometime during the summer, where they basically give you a crash course on how to function at UW.

Cool. So, howā€™s Seattle? Iā€™ve always loved Seattle, but I donā€™t know what itā€™s like to live there. Howā€™s the scene? Chill? Hippie? Artsy? I tend to fall under the artist category. Haha.

I love Seattle. Iā€™m not entirely privy to the different ā€œscenesā€, although I would consider Seattle a pretty ā€˜artsyā€™ city.

Cool cool. So, what did you need to bring to move in? The necessities? Any furniture? What is in the dorm room already?

How are you assigned roommates? I know at some schools you take a quick quiz about music you like and stuff, and they try to give you a roommate with similar interests. Does UW have anything like that, or is it totally random?

iā€™m planning on taking chem and math for fall quarter and idk yet for the third class. would that be really hard? it seems like people are taking chem in one quarter and math the other.

cirujano: I wouldnā€™t bring any furniture. you will have a limited amount of space. generally you get a bed, a desk (or deskspace), a chair, space for clothes (closet if in Haggett) and thatā€™s about it. what you bring really depends on what you want. thereā€™s a thread somewhere around this site about ā€œthings to bring to collegeā€ that may be useful.

a-punk: itā€™s not completely random in the sense that you do fill out a small list of questions about lifestyle if i remember correctly. but itā€™s not at all extensive so in many ways itā€™s a crapshoot whether you are paired with the right person or not. on my floor, we have roommates who are good friends, indifferent but peacefully coexistent, and some who hate eachother so hope you get lucky.

iloveuw: I think many people take math 124/125 and chem 142 in the same quarter. it depends on who you are though. if youā€™re the type whoā€™s ready for college and ready to dive right in or if you want to take it easy while adjusting to college. what math are you planning on taking?

Iā€™ve been assigned to Terry Hall. Triple Room.
Please tell me itā€™s not that bad!! Iā€™m totally upset!

Iā€™m going to write to the student services supervisor and ask if thereā€™s any chance that someone else could cancel his/her application, so I could change residence hall. Terry Hall wasnā€™t even included in my four favourites!! And thenā€¦ living in a triple room with two girls I donā€™t know??? O.O no way!

ouch that hurts. Terry triple has to be pretty much the worst you can get haha. sorry.

right now iā€™m in my second year of IB calculus.
iā€™m planning on taking the proficiency test sometime and i donā€™t mind retaking calculus actuallyā€¦(easy grade, haha :stuck_out_tongue: ) is math 124/125 derivative and integrals?? if they are, they should be easy. whatā€™s the class after math 124/125?

124 is derivatives
125 is integrals
126 is taylor series, vector geometry
and sometime after that thereā€™s differential equations idk, i stopped with 125.
