Any Questions for a Current UCLA Student(s)?

a community college in my area offers research methods and psych stats as a lower division class.

look at psych 330 and psych 335 http://www.losrios.edu/class_schedules_reader.php?loc=arc/fall/Psychology-PSYC.htm</a></p>

That’s super weird because I took a CC research methods course and UCLA didn’t give me credit for them, but I took both A&B and can tell you that they were nothing like the course. Have you checked assist.org and saw that they were transferrable to UCLA? You can always petition, but that’s such a hassle…

they are ucla transferable. Interesting that a CC offer upper division courses.

@rheel3
i agree…even at cc, math and science classes are demanding. my physics tests are open book, yet the class average is usually 60%.

also the sad thing is that the success of these courses doenst depend on how much efforts i put into, but on how well i understand. there are students who spend great amount of time studying and fail tests while there are few students who ace tests without much efforts. i believe these few students are those who think and try to understand when they study.

one more question. what is the minimum units required to maintain your eligibility for the financial aid? and when you said 12 units, is that in quarter or semester?

To Pinoiako916: They are transferrable, but not as Psychology 100A or B. That Psychology 330 course, is considered as your Stats 10 course which is a pre-req to enter Psychology 100A.

To passwordis123: Very true. I had an epiphany when I was taking Calculus based Physics…LOL. I admire people who get that stuff…hahaha. Anyways, to maintain your FA you need a 2.0 and at least 12 units every quarter. UCLA is run on the quarter system as well as most of the UCs except for Berkeley and Merced.

rheel3-what about psychology 335? Is that equivalent to psych 100b in ucla?

^
I doubt it because in order to get into 100B, you need to pass 100A with a C or higher. If 330 isn’t equivalent to 100A, I think it’s the same case with 335.

that interesting because for psych for UCLA and Berkeley, they want you to take their research methods class, not from your community college.

@jaynami Looking at the major requirements it seems a lot of the classes do overlap. I don’t know how many classes will count for both though. Hopefully you don’t have to do the complete requirements for both.

[Psychology Major for Transfer Students — UCLA Psychology Department: Home](http://www.psych.ucla.edu/undergraduate/advising/majors-minors/psychtransfers) - Note the italics on top that say you must be admitted as Pre-Psychology to pursue psychology at UCLA. I don’t know how strict they are on that…

[Cognitive Science Major for Transfer Students — UCLA Psychology Department: Home](http://www.psych.ucla.edu/undergraduate/advising/majors-minors/cogscitransfers)

100A and 100B are upper division classes. NO CC classes are upper division, meaning they are not equivalent.

So I just want to be 100% clear. You said if you CAN see ur financial aid on URSA before decisions are released, that means you’ve been accepted already? Because I can see my financial aid iand document tracking info (it also says complete) already. You were able to see yours before decisions came out right? How much earlier before the decisions release date were you able to see it? Thanks for your help!=)

What are some of the easy classes known on campus?

As far as the FA goes, I remember there only being one person who has supposably able to see theirs and didn’t get in, which I don’t understand still. The way I see it: since the FA office is super busy all year round and I know for a fact their busy right now making the packages for their summer session students like myself, I’m sure they wouldn’t waste their time doing it for students who aren’t in. This isn’t to say that if you can’t see it you’re automatically not in, they might take longer for some students, I’m referring to students who can already see it.

To Matt: Because we have already completed IGETC, assuming you have, a transfer has to focus on upper division courses and those, depending on your major–may or may not be hard. I’ve never had an easy course in the twelve I’ve taken. Check bruinwalk!

If you transfer as psych major would it be easy to change into a cognitive science major?

^
Check with your OC! If it’s not impacted, it should be a simple switch.

Please ask questions here instead of making new threads! Thanks!

@RhleeL3- i heard that you can’t switch to impacted majors after transfer but that you could switch into majors such as history and english, as long as you have the pre reqs completed. Is this true?

Where did you live in your first year as a transfer?

Any info on housing and bringing a car would be REALLY helpful. I’m really worried about getting a triple and not being able to bring my car. Thanks!!

@RHleeL3

I also need to know about switching majors.

I “might” get accepted for anthropology but want to switch into the nonimpacted Chemistry major.

Any help!?

To la4ever09:
It honestly depends on the major. Psychology is definitely a NO-NO, even if you have all the pre-reqs complete. For most departments, this will be the case because UCLA is super strict with this. You may ask your OC for that information, or you can email the general department address and ask, but I’m sure the answer is no.

Thanks for doing this! My question involves housing. After asking many UCLA students, I have gathered these results (which will obviously vary, but just seeking your opinion on these “claims”).

-Delta Terrace is the “unofficial” transfer housing.
-People have told me Delta Terrace, Reiber Vista/Terrace, and De Neve are all good in terms of plaza housing.
-Large plazas are a nice mix of social aspect and private bathrooms, ac/heat etc.

Do you have any other advice or experiences about the housing? I want a good social environment.
