I heard there were placement tests for calculus as well. Does this hold true for all subjects? Can AP credit be considered null and void if we don't pass Cornell's placement tests?

If you have the AP credit, you dont have to take the placement test

Does anybody who currently goes to Cornell know Judy Lai?

Where are the median grades for each major posted? link?

Nice. I had actually been looking for that site for a while and had never been able to find it. Thanks!

Does anyone know what the deal is with Alice Cook houses? Do I want a single? And if i do, which I think I will, do I want to be in a co ed place or what? Also, whats a good meal plan?!! Helps! please. And what is a Residential Program House?

i live in the alice cook house community (not the actual house, but one of the 5 buildings), and I really love it. i got to know my dean and asst dean really well, it's what you make of it really, but it's a lot easier. the language house is part of this community, so you can see and hear a lot of languages being spoken. it's rather nice, the food is getting a lot better too, much much better than jansen's. the room's in cook (and soon becker too, the 2nd house) all have high ceiling fans (although quite small rooms, which was why my friends and i didn't choose it) and the outside of the building, imho, is UGLY. but, i live in the gothic, and i really love it. Plus, we get our own lottery before the regular lottery, and we will try to get our rooms again for next year.

as for meal plans - i suggest doing 10 meals/week because you will have 500 big red bucks to cover you for weeks that you do go over 10 meals (unless you eat a lot, then go for 14meals/week) this is so you don't have 500 brb by the end of the year that you don't know what to do with. in the alice cook house, all the meal plans are unlimited meals, but the difference is either getting 50 BRB, 200 BRB, or 400 BRBs

as for residential program house, i only know the latino living center since i practically lived there my last 2 months last spring. It's really nice, but, they have a limited number of singles, and they always go to past residences, so if you're hoping to get one, good luck. but, i have heard of people getting singles in Mutlicultural something or another (McCLU). Eco house as only doubles. Ujamaa and Holland International Living Center (HILC) are both low-rises (not the best, imo) and Risley of course is cool, although some of the singles are very small. but, i've found the program houses to be really fun, but this year, i haven't had time to observe.

hope that helps

For all of you current students receiving financial aid, I was wondering how they figure your summer contribution. I recieved my financial aid information and I'm supposed to contribute about $2200 from summer earnings. My question is, can I start saving now for that amount? Or will Cornell just re-adjust so I have to contribute more of the money currently in my bank account and STILL come up with $2200 in the summer?

they don't really care. it just means you have to cough up 2200 in one way or another this summer (but most people achieve that by working). just start saving up now.

Yeah, they really dont hold you to it at all. I mean they say they want a student contribution, but they dont actually take the steps to confirm that it actually comes from you of course. As long as they get their money they are happy.

how easy is it to study abroad at Cornell. If you really want to go and you're qualified to do it (ie have required language skills) are you almost guaranteed to do it, or do you have to compete with others who also want to go to the same place as you?
Also, would it even be possible for an engineering major to study abroad. If so when would be the best time?

I don't know too much about studying abroad in general, because I've never really had interest in doing it. I'm not sure at all about what universities you can study at, or when you start, or anything. For engineering, they have made references to this one program where you study at an engineering school in Paris that is apparently quite reputable. Other than that I really don't have any specifics. Maybe someone else can help.

bump bump bump

bump......

check out this site for study abroad: From what i have heard, it is really easy for cornell students to study abroad.

I just called Cornell's Financial Aid Office to report that my mom is unemployed (Truth) and she is the sole wage earner in my family. What would cornell's financial aid office do? Would they increase in my loans to cover my EFC?

hey perro, what are 3 things you love about Cornell and 3 things you hate?

Okay a few questions:

1) To any engineering students: I took the AP Comp Sci AB test in C++ (the last year before they switched to Java). Does Cornell Engineering only teach in Java? If so, am I [expletive deleted in case my mom reads this]?

2) Now, I know Cornell isn't that great when it comes to the big sports (football and basketball). However, when I was up there visiting a friend, I saw a lot of people showing team spirit. Not Cornell team spirit, however. There was a series between the Yankees and Red Sox that weekend (not ALCS). Still, how big a role does sports, college or pro, play on campus?

3) Although I could easily look this up, I'm not 'cuz I'm lazy. Is there a January mini-semester? Is it mandatory?

can anyone tell me cornell's courier/street address. They have so many forms to be sent to different locations as i am intl. but i want to Fedex the whole package and i don't know which address to use?

help, please! my deadline is jan 7
