Yeah...I chose Cornell over Stanford (to apply early) because of cold weather and snow.

Hey perro406
I'm planning on applying for transfering to cornell for fall 05. A few questions i hope you don't mind. Is there/do you notice a lot transfer students there? Do they usually form cliques of their own? And also is there a considerable amount of international students? How diverse is cornell once you really get to live there? Does it live up to the numbers?

Same here Adam, cold and snow are just great.

Anyway, I have a question for a current student:

What are the chances of requesting a single and receiving a double, or vis versa? I know in Court and Mews there are 2/3 doubles, but I'm not sure about the other dorms, and how many people request each one. I plan on getting a single if possible, but I'm just not sure if I'll get one...thanks in advance.

Lets advise everyone to take the doubles and steal the singles for ourselves. Holla privacy...

Yeah there's definitely a lot of people going for the singles on here!! Ahh I hope I don't end up in Balch.. :(

you can always escort guys in and hide them in your HUGE single there...

Haha good point.. A guy could practically move into my closet if I wanted him there.... LOL

Whats the point to hiding a guy in Balch if he's already in the closet? Thats no fun.

Fish: The transition was easy; i've been looking forward to living up north for a long time. What part of FL are you from?

CNCL: There are a good number of transfers, mostly from SUNYs, RIT, Syracuse, etc. They arent particularly cliquey per say, but there is a "transfer center" dorm which is all transfers. A lot of them join frats during fall rush and move in there. There are indeed a lot of international students. You can find kids from almost any country if you look hard enough, but the VAST majority of these kids are from Asia. As for diversity, yeah, i guess its pretty diverse: ethnically (sort of), geographically, socially, etc. Honestly 90% of the minority students are asians. I only know one black kid (most of the african and african-american kids stay in Ujamaa their freshman year and pretty much keep to themselves honestly), and i only know a couple of hispanics (which is a shock coming from florida). There is a native american house, but i dont know any native americans. However, i do know approximately 300 asians. I guess cornell lives up to the numbers, but it seems like some minorities still arent very well represented.

AJ: This year, there was shortage of ppl who actually wanted singles. Consequently, i know a lot of kids who didnt really want them but ended up with singles anyhow. It really depends on the year and what the trend is. I'd say the odds are (>>50% chance) that you will get what you want though.

Perro: Just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your posts. I think CC should appoint you as a moderator!

Great info. I'm from Delray Beach, you?

cornell can easily be cliquey. thankfully, if you just make the effort, you can just as easily defy that. get to know your resident housekeeper/dining worker too not just your multi-colored classmates. it'll enrich your cornell experience. i'm currently in gainesville (heading back soon...urgh) and certainly enjoying the slightly cold weather right now...not looking forward to going back, but i miss my friends.

Im from DeLand

Bizzzzzzzzzump

you of course think your dorm or whatever is the best... but what do you think the best dorm would be for a freshman?

I don't have any questions per say but I wanted to give a big thank you for providing us with all this info. I'm so excited about Cornell now (as if there was a time when I wasn't excited?!).

So, thanks. :)

so i have a question. Why is Cornell named so?

Ezra Cornell = the founder of Cornell

CMB: Dunno; they are pretty much all good in some respect or another.

gracilisae: Thanks.

Nomad: Yeah, what he said.

perro, I'm a she ;)
