NorthEastMom2, my D also received the early notification acceptance letter (Priority Mail business size envelope) yesterday for the College of Art + invite to Art Visit Weekend. She plans to double major in psychology. What area of art is your D interested in? Mine is interested in Fashion Design, but also enjoys 3-D art forms. Unfortunately, she probably won't be able to attend the Art Weekend, as she will be out of the country as an exchange student for a few weeks. She will definitely be enrolling at Wash U though. She was deferred in the ED round.

Congrats to you all! Good luck to everyone patiently waiting to hear their decisions!

Daughter got her RD acceptance notification (Arts & sciences) and multicultural weekend invitation yesterday by snail mail. we're happy for her. congrats to all who got in and best of luck to all who're still waiting for the decision.

i'm confused... obviously reg. cas people who aren't invited to multicultural/special weekend haven't been informed yet, but i thought that would be soon. i just called the office and they said the decisions will be mailed april 1st and posted online that day. are they just lying? or waiting to make sure everything gets mailed out?

that's quite annoying that certain people get notified in advance to visit. the top % deserve it, but being a minority shouldn't get you such privilege.

well i applied ED (was deferred) and they never spilled on the release date of admissions. i would just advise that you continue to check daily like i am until the decisions show up!

not only minorities are invited to mc weekend

@ jl08 I don't think it's a problem that people who are invited to these weekends get notified earlier. Because they are holding these weekends and flying us out there, they need to know so that they have adequate time to book flights, find hosts, etc. Yes, it's a pain waiting to hear but don't just complain and say it's not fair..and I have heard of some caucasians being invited to MW so its about a culturally diverse thing not just about race

yeah but i've heard many minorities and such are invited. soo, yeah i will consider it unfair. to the top % - that's great. they deserve it. but the rest don't.

So are you saying that many of these minority students aren't in the top %. That's an assumption and unless you have facts to back that up that would be a false claim. Many minority students who I knew that got in, have scores in the "top %" of SAT/ACT test takers and are graduating in the top 1% of their class. I just don't get how you think that because people are minorities they aren't high achieving students and deserving of this..If a particular college had a weekend for the top % of caucasian admitted students who am I to complain about it? Thats what that particular college wants to do with their money...People always look for reasons to complain about the system and how it caters to minorities..I'm sure if you have what WashU is looking for you will get in

Very, very well said.

I am pretty sure that if the minorities were NOT the top% of minorities, WashU would not waste the money flying them in.

To me, when I see people I dont see their skin or their heritage. Multicultural weekend with an emphasis on minorities is like having a visiting weekend where they say hey! Well invite some top applicants, and while were at it well invite a bunch of brown-haired people, too! multicultural is everyone, and anyone who is interested in culture should be invited maybe mark a spot on the application just because you have a certain skin color or heritage doesnt mean youre more cultured or interested in such.

The funny thing is, people always go with whatever works for them, whether or not its right or wrong. If skin color or heritage hurts someone, s/hed be outraged. But then, when society shifts and it begins to help them, theyre all for racial discrimination. I guess history is bound to stay in the same cycle, because no one can learn from their mistakes.

If you cant gather, to me this isnt just about early notification.

So yes, I would think it was awful even if it was a weekend about caucasians. I think it's sad our world can't move past skin color.

and obviously i don't know the statistics, but i've heard of some minorities getting the invite/early accept who really did not look at all at the top of the applicant pool. then again, it's hard to judge when we don't see the whole package. i went by what i heard from cc, that some were top apps and others were just minorities. i didn't say the two couldn't overlap at all, but just that some were in because of skin color and not merit.

if you want to go by test scores, there are people on cc who reported their acceptance who clearly aren't the top % of test takers. that does not in any way imply that they couldn't still be in the top % for other reasons or that they don't deserve an acceptance - but there are holes in your argument, too. (and it shouldn't be top % of minorities - it should be top % of everyone)

i guess it comes down to a question of morality. i for one do not judge people on their skin color - whether it helps or hurts them.

@jl08:
Your major flaw in your argument was that they have SPECIALTY WEEKENDS(although you did mention this yourself).
Well they're doing "top %everyone" with their specialty weekends.
Sorry if you didn't get invited to CAS/Art/Architecture/Olin. Just wait another 2-3 days.

On another note, why don't you look into the thread about the kid who was accepted to Stanford with a 1700? It's got the same dynamic as the way you're pushing this thread.

Are we debating affirmative action here? Or just the fact that a few people found out early? I think this is blown out of proportion and is starting to sound offensive and disrespectful towards the early admits, who most likely labored hard for their acceptance.

i have no idea what this thread has turned into and i certainly didn't want it taken to debating affirmative action..god knows we have too much of that on CC..my point is just be happy for those who received early notification because everyone had to work hard, overcome something, excel in an area, whatever it was to get in..
