from Dartmouth ???

I think people will start getting it like.... Feb.12?

how do you know this ^

^

the first wave of likely letters will be dated Feb.8... so I guess 4 days after people might receive it?

you can check out the previous posts...

I wouldn't speculate like that. I;m sure that as soon as they are sent out, somebody on CC will post that they received one. Since so many people are anxious, there is no way that a received letter will fly under the radar.

smalllab,

thanks

how do you know they will be dated feb. 8

fingers crossed...

Hey, I'm an RD applicant. (I did MIT/UChicago early and got deferred by MIT)

My english teacher, who is a Dartmouth alum and was my Dartmouth interviewer, revealed to me that he was contacted by a member of the admissions faculty stating that I would be receiving a likely letter. I was notified today--haven't gotten it as a hard copy yet.

I hope many others here get one too. Anyone know any stats regarding how many get them?

how were you notified

Your teacher was suppose to recuse himself and not interview you because he does know you. I wonder what is going to happen when his name shows up on both your transcript and your interview report?

Nothing; Dartmouth is well aware of it, and that is also the case with teacher/interviewers for a few other schools I applied to. Dartmouth has admitted students that he has taught and interviewed for the past several years, and of the 12 kids applying from my school this year, 10 or so are his students since he is one of only two AP English teachers.

I don't see why there would be an issue with a teacher being the interviewer. It isn't for other schools, and it certainly isn't for Dartmouth. I can see the ethical conundrum, but if the interviewer's sole interpretation of an applicant is based on a single encounter, and ulterior assessment is pushed aside, then it's fair game. The three prongs of my application were engineering research, political activism, and social outreach. I certainly don't demonstrate that in an english classroom environment.

Since your teacher told you that you will be receiving one, I would expect a hard copy in the mail in the coming days. Congrats.

how do people get likely letters? why do they get them/does d send them?

Arch3r25,
Congrats !

Hi sleeping, they'll come in through snail mail. Ivy league schools are bound to a single admissions decision date, but they circumvent this date by targeting students that they think would be a good match for their school by sending out letters of interest early. The logic is that the extended time allows the student to take the school much more seriously.

Thanks nsrjsyt! I'll feel much better when I get the paper in my hands though :)

congrats! that's so exciting!

is dartmouth your top choice?

Got one this morning. Didn't even know these things existed. I'm pretty stoked.

DwightEisenhower,
