is there any reason to not submit deposit until the deadline? I already got my estimated package, and even if it were to change drastically, I would find out in april, which means that would be past the deadline already.

Talk it over with your parents to make sure they can afford it, then submit the deposit and withdraw from other schools asap. There is no reason to wait.

We submitted our Ds deposit on Dec 16th. Figured why wait? We got the FA package and it was good so now we will wait for further info. It’s an exciting time!

Did you get in ED? It sounds like you’re getting cold feet a bit…I don’t know why people apply ED if they don’t really want to attend. Sorry if this isn’t your situation, but I’ve been reading a LOT of threads recently where people are reluctant to accept binding offers of admission because they want to “compare aid packages” from other schools they applied to, when it’s really to see if they can get away with it. But I digress.

To answer your question, no, not really.

ED really does require the parents and student to use the NPC and other calculators to see if ED college is affordable or not prior to submitting an ED application. That seems like a no-brainer to me. Granted, NPC is not a “solid” number, but it sure is a fair estimate IMO. There really should be no huge surprises. We did an estimate on Cornell’s NPC and it looked within our range, so we gave the go-ahead. Cornell FA actually came back a few thousand in our favor, so I do believe these estimates are generally in the ballpark.

If you want to compare FA packages, then apply RD, it’s that simple.

No I am definitely not getting cold feet.
