Any reason to withdraw an application?

I applied to a school EA, as I was applying for one of their competitive scholarships as well. I did not advance in the competition, and I was deferred EA. After the sting of rejection wore off, I’m starting to realize that this school was probably not the best place for me after all, and was very different from everywhere else I applied. I feel confident that I will not attend even if I am accepted. I am waiting to hear from five other schools RD and have one other EA acceptance that I love and can afford.

My question is this - would it be a good idea to withdraw my application? I know I will not attend, so it seems natural to pull back my application. However, I did pay close to $100 to apply, and it seems strange just to throw that down the drain and never hear back. On the other hand, I think it would be a good idea to free up a possible acceptance spot?

I’m fairly sure I was deferred due to a drop in grades junior year and I got a 4.0 last semester, so I think it is more likely than not I would be accepted.

I wouldn’t. You may change your mind again. You are entitled to keep the option open.

Don’t withdraw. Withdrawing will not guarantee that the school will free up another spot for another student (and that is if you are accepted), so it will only do more harm than good. Keep the application in for financial options and a backup just in case you change your mind or something else happens.

Don’t withdraw. My son picked his last choice school to follow the money and he changed his mind about big city. Keep your options open.
