any recommendations for online act prep courses? not just practice tests (can get those from books ) but one that helps with strategy, test taking techniques etc. . have googled and the prices really vary

look at prepme

I used prepme. They were nice. I guess they helped some. If you put in the time and effort they WILL help you raise your scores. However, if you buy a 30 dollar prep book instead, and put in the time and effort, I think you will raise your scores just as much. What you are in really paying for, in my opinion, is someone to push you. You get weekly reports and a tutor telling you to keep at it, plus you are kind of guilted into studying after investing so much money. The quality of the company is high. But, in my opinion, the quality of other, far cheaper, alternatives like studying with a good prep book, or getting a one on one inexpensive tutor in your town, is just as high. It’s up to you. If you think the motivation paying money and having someone pushing you is worth it, go for it, but if you are motivated and all of that, buy a book. Plus, I don’t go for the whole “on average scores go up X amount of points”… usually companies give you tougher tests in the beginning so when you do well on the actual exam, it looks like you have improved more than you have.
