Any regular decision acceptances yet?

I still haven't gotten so much as a postcard from them!!! I know I'm going to BoCo, but I still wanna know if NYU liked me or not. :)

Samia, you applied as a transfer, right? I'm not sure if transfer decisions are out yet? I know my D has a good friend who auditioned fairly recently for transfer from another university. I don't know if she has heard yet but I am thinking not or my D likely would have mentioned it.

I got a Tisch scholarship also worth 9,000 a year. I applied for dramatic writing. I was also a little freaked out when the acceptance letter only said Tisch and didn't specify anything else. Sadly us writers don't have studios. I wonder if we'll get some kind of letter welcoming us to dramatic writing?

Benjygil --

last year i was waitlisted for CAP21. i was told that tisch waitlists about 170 and usually accepts 17-20 off the waitlist, so about 10%.

that said, the 170 waitlisted accounts for ALL Tisch depts, including film, dance, etc. -- so those aren't all drama people.

hope that helps!

We got our letter today. Our d. is in. Has anyone else heard? If anyone could tell us any info on Tisch or give us helpful hints, that would be great. We sent our YES, we accepted within an hour!

Happy for you! You are not going with her to NYU, are you?? j/k! Enjoy the moment. Congratulations to your daughter.

Our d. got into Tisch today...but nothing about this Sat in the square? What is that all about?

No, I'm not going...only for an occasional visit!!

Your daughter got accepted to Tisch.

Saturday in the Square is an event that selected admitted students were invited to. Not all admitted students got that. Those invitations came out about ten days or so ago. Letters of admissions came out in the past couple of days.

Is the sat in the square to tell them about NYU, offer schlarships or just for a select group?

Soozie can answer this better than I since she and her daughter attended last year, but from what I understand, Saturday at the Square is not related to scholarships, but is a recruiting day, I guess you could call it, for students who have either outstanding academics, audition results, or possibly both. Not sure exactly what the selection formula is, if there is one. Plenty of people are accepted, though, who aren't notified of this event. Congratulations to your daughter!

Thanks so much for the info. She is so excited!!!

Still no letter?!?!

The postal service is LAME!

We are still awaiting notification of studio...and we are only across the river. I have been reading the posts for the last tense few weeks and the information has been incredibly helpful and supportive. My D will be attending Tisch and we are assuming (hopefully) that since she stated only Cap21 to her auditioner, that is where she will be going. She attended Cap this summer (for all you other attendees) and is absolutely ecstatic (as we are, especially given the competition and audition process). So now as a parent, I am ready for any and all advice any present parent would like to give regarding classes, housing, anything. Thanks.

hopeful in NE....Yes, Saturday in the Square is for selected admitted students. Yes, it is to give information about Tisch like events at many colleges for accepted students to help them decide where to matriculate. No, those attending are not necessarily offered scholarships. It is unrelated to scholarships. I imagine some who attend got scholarships but those were received prior to attendance.

NJFan, your D will get CAP21 because she said CAP or nothing. Last year, my D only wanted CAP, but did give a second and third choice studio and so did have to find out what she got (she got CAP). Your D WILL get CAP.

As far as advice regarding classes, housing, or anything else, it would be much easier if you asked specific questions. I'd be happy to try to help as a parent of a freshman in CAP21. Congrats to your daughter.

UGH! did anyone else get waitlisted for theater at Tisch? or know how many get waitlisted there? i have to wait two more months to find out! oy. i heard odds are pretty bad, though.

Anyone else not hear yet?
I live on Long Island!
This isn't fair!

I think if you call the school ,they will tell you because letters went out several days ago.

Do you get to pick your housing or is it assigned. Can we visit the residence halls?

If we go to visit next weekend, who should we try to meet with? What do you think are the most important things we should do.

Do you think you usually get one of studios you requested?

Housing....in the coming months, you'll get information about housing and the options. There is traditional style housing (dorm rooms) and apartment style housing (bedrooms, common rooms, private bath and kitchen). You can put down your preference for which type. You have to order your top six choice dorms. There are no guarantees. Most colleges you don't choose at all freshmen year...I know my D at Brown did not get to. You can put in requests for roommates if you have any. My D did...she had a theater friend from our state also going to CAP. The ED kids get first picks in the housing. My D was a RD kid. But her roomie was an ED acceptee and so that helped most likely when my D and her roomie got their first choice dorm. My D is in an apt. style dorm. They do cost more than traditional style dorms but that is all explained in the materials you will be sent. NYU doesn't have formal dorm visits. But if you know someone who goes, they could invite you to see inside their dorm. You can't just walk in a dorm and look around as there is security that is tight. But if you are a guest of someone in that dorm, you can look or even spend the night.

About the visit....has your D been to NYU yet ever? I can't tell if it is a first or second visit. Also, if I understand correctly, she doesn't have the invite for Saturday in the Square events and if that is the case, I would NOT visit on that day. It will not only be crowded but she is not registered to get into any of those events. I'd go on a different day. In fact, a weekday would be preferable, if you can manage it. If a first visit, I'd do the NYU tour. Normally I'd say the NYU Info. session but that would be unnecessary since she is admitted. As a prospective student, my D also did Tisch's information session. Again, that may or may not make sense as an admitted student. I'd see if there were any faculty or students to meet with. I would call and ask. Most studios do not allow classroom observations....except maybe in dance. When we visited Tisch the first time, Tisch did make a CAP student available to talk one on one with us....we lined that up in advance at Tisch.

I can't say that you "usually" get the studio you requested. The admissions odds in the first place are very difficult. Many more want CAP than they can accomodate. A student should indicate a second or third choice studio. If Tisch accepted your D, then they wanted her and picked a studio that they felt was the best fit. I can't tell you those odds. CAP accepts in the viscinity of about 7% but the acting studios have a higher admit rate (that is still quite selective). Your studio assignment should arrive any day now. If you gave a first, second, and third choice, I do feel you'd get one of those, not some OTHER studio. If CAP was first choice, I can't say if it will happen or not. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. The school decides. If you are unwilling to accept any studio other than CAP, you had to say CAP ONLY at auditions and if they couldn't put you in CAP, then they'd have rejected you. Saying CAP ONLY does not increase one's chances of getting CAP. It only means that if they don't feel they can place you into CAP....you COULD be accepted anyway to Tisch for acting but if you say only CAP, then if they don't put you in CAP, they just don't take you at all.

Hope this helps some.
