i still haven’t heard anything yet…and my status is stuck at 3/25 sooo im thinking im going to be rejected any day now…

just got rejected for CLAS…

now time to decide between CAL (live 10 mins away:( ) and UCSD

though i am appealing

My status update is still on 2/17 so I don’t think it matters…

JW and jeana–so so sorry to read your kids’ news. (The same for the rest of you.) Your S’s stats were so high!! Admissions last year and this year have become crazy with so many applicants. I know everyone who is getting this disappointing news will thrive at their chosen college. Hope to continue seeing you around the cc parent section.

I’m shocked that this year admissions are more brutal than last year which I thought was the worse.

I got in to CLAS

rejected!
2110, 3.7 GPA UW, and lots of leadership.

3 rejections within a week and five more to come tomorrow!

JW…I’m not sure what constitutes for a “bona finde” legacy, but both my mom and dad went to SC; the whole 9 yards, met there, fell in love, got married right after graduation…so needless to say we’ve been Trojans at heart for a long, long time. But such is life! Best of luck to your son wherever he goes, great 2 choices for him. Not sure where you’re from, but we’re in the Bay Area and Santa Clara is a beautiful campus with tons to do within a short distance. My son is very much looking forward to UCSB and we’re off to visit the campus this weekend. Fight on SC, we still love you!

madbean, thank you for your words. Indeed this year has been what you call insane! My son applied to 9 schools and has been accepted to only 2. Looking back now I’m afraid we set the bar a bit too high, but we’re very grateful he got into one of his top choices for his major. It’s a huge relief it’s over and my son is looking ahead to a great college experience. And as to the other kids on this site, after all my visits and reading all their posts I’ve got to say that I’ve been pulling for each and every one of them to the point of gut-wrenching nervousness. They all seem to be great kids and should be very proud of themselves. Good luck to everyone and your future happiness.

@Columbia_Student,

Admission rates are actually UP this year compared to last year: [Daily Trojan - USC plans to adjust acceptance rate in wake of economic downturn](http://www.dailytrojan.com/news/usc-plans-to-adjust-acceptance-rate-in-wake-of-economic-downturn-1.1627362)

The rates may be up, but it seems the students were even more qualified than ever before. Seeing so many great students (and parents!) get these rejections is heartbreaking. Good luck to every one of you.

^^^Reading that article really showed me how intense admissions were this year. They accepted more students, but the average SATs and GPAs were up from last year. This doesn’t mean anyone should give up hope yet! My scores and GPA were below this years average and I got admitted. There’s something to be said for having the type of character that the school is looking for. It can set you aside from students with higher statistics. If anyone asks me for a piece of advice, I’ll tell them to do interview. I think it gives you a chance to show the school what you’re like when you’re not broken down on a piece of paper.

oasis shows “acted upon”, am able to rsvp to one event, nothing in the mail, live in d.c. - can i assume i got in ???

rejected saw it coming

skimlatte: you probably got spring admit

have followed these post with interest the last few weeks. Thought I would jump in the conversation. S just received rejection yesterday. A little surprised.
SAT: 2060/2400, 1410/1600
GPA: 3.2/3.7
Captain Varsity Sport large public high school, lived overseas for a large part of childhood, Native American grandmother, legacy.
His stats are average for prior USC acceptances(using naviance system). live on the east coast and had a terrific interview. he was offered an interivew in june to assist in the transfer process. He will most likely accept a near full scholarship from southern school.

It would be SO helpful if you would post decisions/stats on the thread:

Template on post #1 of ^that thread.
Please post no matter what the decision- you don’t have to give all info- ANY info will be helpful.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU so much to those who have already done it-
future applicants will REALLY appreciate it.

jeananotgina, I’d really appreciate your expertise on a thread I’ve created in the College Search forum.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/681216-1-yr-transfer-project-ucsb-regents-santa-clara.html

S of JW for some reason has an aversion to UCSB, apparently because his brother is a Freshman there, and he doesn’t want to follow in his wake. Now he is considering UC Davis instead. The thing is, he was selected Regent’s at UCSB, and this represents a significant honor and tremendous advantage (as well as a $6,000 savings). The plan is for him to apply himself, get A’s, and see if he can transfer in a year to those same places that have just spurned him. I think this would be best done as a Regent at UCSB, but I can’t force it.

We’ll be at UCSB on Saturday as well. We’ll look for the couple wearing the USC sweatshirts. ;-)
