Any Rejections Yet?

I keep reading here about acceptances. Meanwhile, my D has not heard a thing yet. I am wondering if they are holding back the rejections to send out with the last batch...the odds are pretty good that if we haven't heard its a rejection.

I know they are supposedly random. If they truly were though wouldn't we be hearing about rejections as well?

that's exactly what i'm thinking deezmom it seems everyone on this forum or at my school has gotten some sort of notification of their acceptance...i have not heard of any rejections

i know for ED kids they sent rejections last, like most schools

I always thought it was totally random but I have to agree. So far, everyone here has been accepted. It's a little early. Do you suppose the acceptances have all been sent already or do you think we still have a little more time?

don't read too much into this! everything is truly random. sure, the cards may mean that NYU really wants you, but I know plenty of people that have found out previous years on and around April 1.

Pretty much all schools save rejections till the end...............but the also save alarge amount (usually most) acceptences till towards the end as well.

So hope for the best.

exactly as plza said...most schools may save the rejections for the end (even though I know two people that got rejection letters already) and they also save a majority of the acceptance decisions. Remember, the people that got the cards early are only a select amount that NYU really wants. NYU recieves so many applications that even though it may seem like everyone's getting in, there's still SO SO SO SO many more people who applied and haven't heard anything, and I'm sure there not all going to be rejected. sorry if that doesn't make any sense hahaha I'm just trying to be positive!

Order NYU sends out decisions:

GSP (to be able for them to have more time to decided if they are willing to attend NYU still)

Likely Letters and Special Scholarships (NYU sends out those postcards everyone is so worried about so that select students can make plans to attend special receptions for either their respective scholarships, or for extremely qualified students to convince them to choose NYU over other great schools)

International Students (Theoretically this is so they receive the decisions about the same time as students in the US, but many times they receive the decisions much sooner)

"Regular" Acceptances (Usually sent out the week or so before the announced date, December 15 for ED, April 1 for RD. They also send acceptances out before rejections so that applicants can have more time to decided whether or not they wish to enroll)

Rejections (Last ones to be sent out)

Wow, is it really true? (that the people who receive those invitations are NYU's priority students); half the people I ask insist it's really a random order, and I actually believe that, even though I received an invitation - my friend who got deferred from Yale but is still a superb student did NOT receive any invitation, yet his twin brother who's still a really good student but not as good as him received the invitation. That alone makes me feel like it's not quite intentional... though they did email me that thing about scholarships, which I'm really hoping for if I indeed go to NYU - $50,000+, the number alone makes me wonder what else you can buy with that amount of cash.

scorp_ion, are those postcards sent out to ALL accepted students, or only to those that NYU really wants to have attending???

oh gah...I hope not =( Hopefully they only send the cards to a select group and the rest can find out regularly..please!

lol if it's only sent to a select few, then I feel flattered because Stern considers me a priority student :-P

scorp was right in saying that the chosen who got the cards early are people that NYU strongly wants. however, I called and they said that all accepted students eventually get invited to "an" event (get a postcard). Now, I'm not sure if it is the same postcard for the same event or a different postcard for a different event.

As I understand it, there are two different postcards. The priority students get invited to the NYU in the Park reception (something like that, I don't remember the exact name). The postcards they are sending out now go to accepted students and include invitations to a regular accepted students' day. When my friend called the Office, it sounded like all accepted students receive a postcard before an official packet so that they can make travel plans to attend the accepted students' day, but that could be wrong. I do know for sure that the Office said that the accepted postcards would continue to be mailed out up to around April 1st, so I don't think there's any reason to lose hope yet.

It would be lovely if mine was any indication of a merit scholarship... but I'm not so sure. Any new info on this?

I got my postcard early and it was for the regular accepted students day, I believe. Though it would be WONDERFUL if I got some sort of scholarship from NYU.

I'm hoping it's special students so I can get some cheez, you feel me?
