I read someone's post who said Li isn't good and we should take Pederson..I was going to get it done over the summer but now I'm not so sure. Help?

Im probably the one who posted that comment about Li

The thing about Dr Li is that this will be her first time teaching Chem 3A lecture. So no one can really give you an accurate description on how she will teach Chem 3A.
But she has been involved in Chem 3AL and Chem 112A Labs and I must say that she is actually awesome and way laid back in labs however in lecture for Chem 1A she expected alot. And it was a disastrous experience. She does not believe in curve. So the class got so competitive. She expects alot specially for her tests. During my finals, we had a multiple choice test but we had to manually calculate everything and choose one of the answers provided. Imagine a 60 minute test with 60 questions that requires ALOT OF CALCULATION. She is an awesome person, very nice and entertaining BUT one tough of a professor!

I am a chemistry major now and to be honest, Chem 1A with Li is the toughest chemistry class I have ever taken at Cal and Ive taken 3 upper divs chem so that says alot about her. She is an organic chemist by trade so I dont know if she would even expect more from her students for Chem 3A lecture…

But with regards to Pedersen though, I think it is better to wait for him. He expects alot too but if you simply do all the problems he assign, you will get a good grade for his class. The tests are completely straight forward with no surprises.

Okay, thank you. I dropped Chem 3a. I think it’s a good idea to take it in the fall either way because there will probably be more resources with the slc and everything. Summer has limited resources.

I’ll PM you about more stuff.

Does anyone know how Li would be for 3BL. I checked the Fall schedule again and she is assigned to teach 3BL for fall. I never heard much about her so wondering if someone could elaborate more on their experience with her as their lab course instructor.

She taught the lab portion for 112B last semester. She’s pretty chill, great teacher, and the lab final wasn’t hard at all.

Does she give a grading rubric for lab reports so then the grading between each GSI is not so skewed?

Yeah, lab reports are pretty standard and there’s always certain things the GSIs look for.
