Alright... My file has been complete with a scholastic qualification since December, but my Blue and Gold called today and told me that my file hadn't even been looked at by the admissions board yet. Is there any rhyme or reason to what order the the board looks at files?

I wouldnt worry too much. I believe that the admission board just finished all the pre-lim reviews(the ones where they determine if youre scholastically qualified) 2-3 weeks ago. I could be wrong, but i would assume they've only been reviewing the QQQ'd apps with noms 2 to 3 times at most. Trust me, the waiting kills, but be patient. If you look at the c/o 2010 profile, if youre QQQ with a nom, statistically, youve got about an 80% chance of gettin in. Good luck to you! GO NAVY!

if you've received a scholastic qualification, from what I understand from the CVW admissions Q&A, that means the board has already looked at you..atleast for the purposes of reviewing your scholastic record..I dont think you have anything to be worried about just yet...it is only February

My son's friend, whose gpa, test scores, EVERYTHING was WAAAAYY better than my son's, didn't find out till late February and his B&G had to call them to get off a letter, or something, since he had USAFA and USCGA knocking on the door with appointments.

I could be off base, but I'd be very surprised if BGOs calling the Admissions office would result in actions, with rare exception. And I trust they would be well aware that offer of alternative appointments require no response prior to 1 May. Knowing this may lend itself to alot of undo pressure being put okn BGOs.

As a BGO, I'm not sure I'd want to be put in that position or that my calling CGO would have any effect -- other than to make CGO unhappy with me.

USCGA doesn't have to deal with the nom issue, so it's a lot easier for them to manage the process and get their offers out early. USAFA and USMA are usually more "aggressive" in getting out appointments, for a variety of reasons.

Finding out in late Feb is actually early. USNA generally tries to notify people by April 15th. Some people do get offers of appointment earlier, but many don't. None of my candidates has yet been notified, most are triple Q'ed and and several have LOAs.

If your son's friend hadn't heard by May 1 (when commitments to other schools are due) -- another story. The BGO might be able to find out why the delay in notification. But, for candidates and their parents, please don't follow this example and ask your BGO to call CGO if appointment letters don't arrive in February. You can imagine how busy CGO is right now. There are usually >2000 triple Q'ed candidates out there, most without offers of appointment. If every BGO called CGO about every candidate, you can imagine the chaos that would ensue.

Waiting is really hard but all of us alums did it and most of the Class of 2011 is currently doing it. Just hang on.

The reasoning they were given last year is that they were a little late getting out of the chute. The kid in question's dad is a USAFA ALO, so that's their (their family's, BGO) call. Plus, that's their experience. Just one of many on this site.

I didn't say it was a good example, it just happened. Danbrenn asked for rhyme or reason. To be honest, at this point, the Navy is looking a little better than the other academies in MY son's case.

If you don't want me to share ANYTHING, just let me know and I am more than willing to sit on my hands and keep my ignorant trap shut.

Look, everyone needs to realize that the application process is NOT a lockstep procedure with split-second timing and flawless precision. This is a government operation we're talking about, remember?

There are several valued points of view here. We have prospective parents, veteran parents, candidates, current Mids, Alumni, and BGO's. All have their stories to tell and views on issues. HOWEVER, I think we should all recognize and respect the fact that the BGO's are deeper in the actual application process than any other group. They are not dealing with ONE application, but oftentimes a dozen or more, and they do this over and over. The ones posting here are among the better ones, IMO, and should therefore be listed to closely and not jumped on when parental instincts kick in.

Listen and learn. You'll learn stuff not related to USNA, even. I know I have since I've been here.

Carry on. :)

ETA: Thanks, Pig! Kinda like hearding cats around here sometimes, eh? ;)

My son appled to multiple service academies last year. He had a principal nomination to USNA, but had medical issues. The USNA took forever to communicate with him. I was disappointed and took their silence as arrogance or indifference. His BGO officer was nice but didn't seem to be able to get anyone in Admissions to move. I hope those people never have to go into the private sector. Keep all of your options at the other academies open.

My son had a presidential nomination in hand in October but he got both appointments (one to the USNA, one to the USAFA) against congressional nominations that went out in January. It appears that both boards picked him up on first review of his completed files. The steps seemed to flow in quick succession: 1) file completion, 2) congressional nominations, 3) initial review, 4) appointment offered.

It appears to me that in my son's case at least the boards were looking to fill the congressional slots first, thus saving the presidential slots for later action.
