Any Richmond Scholar Semifinalist?

I emailed the Admission Office a few days ago and they said the letters are being sent out, the last one will be sent on 01/08 :frowning: I’ve not heard anything up to now… How about others?

I called them today and was told that the last email will be sent out on 1/11. They said that they review applications and send out emails everyday.

Interesting. In previous years, the invitations appear to have gone out through the end of January.

I still have not heard anything. I know that the admissions office was closed awhile over break, so I am hoping there are still a good amount of notifications to be sent out.

My counselor reported calls from Richmond today- possibly related to semifinal status, possibly not. They were apparently just making some basic inquiries about kids that applied.

But I haven’t heard anything (or heard about anyone that has heard something).

Anyone get an email?

If you look at the threads right below this (“class of 2020” and “richmond scholars”) on this forum, you’ll see that yes, notifications have already begun (one poster was notified Dec 16th). They typically do several batches of notifications through the end of January. Back when I applied, I was notified of my semi-finalist status on Jan 6th (2014) and there was at least one more batch of notifications after that.

Note that there is no notification if you are not selected as a semi finalist.

I just got an email! Richmond semi-finalist

Congratulations @nangkhieu !! Do you mind posting your stats?

Yeah thanks  I’m an international student, female majoring in computer science. GPA 4.0, ACT 35 (one sitting), SAT 2320 superscored (Math: 800, CR: 770, W: 740 - I took the SAT twice). 3 or 4 state-level awards in maths and economics but nothing jaw-dropping. So-so ECs. Generic to decent recs. Great CA essay. The Spider essay is one my favorite to write, and I think it’s pretty amusing and interesting.

Just got notified! Does anyone know if all semifinalists are offered admission(even if they do not become scholars)?

@an1620 that seems pretty safe to assume … what are your stats (brief like nangkhieu is fine). Also, how was your Richmond essay?

@Daddio3 International student, GPA 9.69/10, SAT 2040 second sitting (690 M, 670 R, 680 W), SAT Subject Literature 720(took in Dec. so it was probably not considered). Female majoring in Psychology. A lot of acting experience and volunteer work. My Richomond spiders essay was really good-one of my favorites, and my CA essay was also pretty good (I assume). No international awards, but a few state Olympiads in English and Logic and a Public Speaking award. Recommendations were from teachers that knew me well and could highlight my qualities.

My email said that materials need to be submitted by January 11, but I was only notified on January 8th. Could this be a mistake? I read that we should have 1-2 weeks to submit them.

Grats! I would contact admissions but get it done as soon as possible. Did you apply early or RD by Dec 1?

@an1620 Semi-finalists are NOT guaranteed admission, but just about every semi-finalist is admitted (if not all). They do reserve that right to not accept, however, especially if your mid-year grades are poor (like Fs).
And yes, the turn around can be short! Most people are given around 7 days. If you feel you will be unable to meet the deadline, I would contact admissions!

@Daddio3 I applied RD.

Just got notified! So pumped

@summertimesr congrats! Until when do you need to submit materials?

@an1620 thanks!! I have until January 13th to submit. I had a quick question also, not sure if anyone knows the answer: for the Oldham Scholars application should it be one page in a certain format? Mines a little long, but I can squish it into 1 page if I make the font smaller and change the spacing-- not sure how that will look though. It’s not going to be anything crazy, maybe 11 point font or no spacing between paragraphs. If anyone has any thoughts on that it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
