Any Richmond Scholar Semifinalist?

Is today the last day for emails to be sent by admissions notifying semifinalists? Another poster @busyybee mentioned that 1/11 was the date given when they phoned admissions.

@dreambig2018 they typically continue notifying til the end of January. Usually they post on the UR admissions Twitter account when all notifications have been made.

Thanks, @guineagirl96, I hope so! Compared to previous years, there are fewer students who have posted that they’ve been contacted (only 4 so far this year). I am hoping more will be notified this week.
I also just want to thank you for all of your posts about Univ of Richmond. They have been so helpful and informative and one of the main reasons that I applied there. It sounds like a great place to learn for four years. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I am accepted.

What type of “Graded Paper” do they want for the Boatwright scholar? I don’t know if I should submit a research paper or creative writing piece

@dreambig2018 you’re welcome! And thanks for your kind words! I’m glad you’ve found my posts helpful!

@summertimesr just noticed I forgot to respond to your question! Those changes in formatting should be fine! I remember having a similar problem with fitting on one page for my artist statement back when I applied and I believe I made the font a tad smaller.

@jule13 either type of paper is fine. Boatwright is open to those with a broad range of interests and fields of study, so they’re more concerned with how the paper is written and its insights into your academic abilities and interests rather than the topic or format.

@guineagirl96 thanks for the response! I’m going to go for it and hope for the best :-bd

@guineagirl96 Thank you!

Actually, its till the end of Jan. I emailed their Associate Director of Admission and found out.

Do phone calls from the student help? Just checking in, wondering if they have all supporting data, etc?

does anyone know if the batches come out by region? I’m in Virginia and haven’t heard anything

@lake4 Your online application portal (is it called myApp? They’ve changed it since I applied…) should tell you what they’ve received. If you sent something that’s not listed as received there, then you can call admissions and check.

@stodghill Batches are NOT sent by region. They’re relatively random, but it basically comes down to when your application was complete (everything required received), where you are in their stack of files, and the amount of time it takes for them to review your materials.

@guineagirl96 thank you

Thanks for the response @guineagirl96 and @stodghill . Yes, the semester grades are still outstanding. I assumed that would be true for everyone. We have had no contact with admissions except for application and a department scholarship interview. Both times we were there admissions was closed and it is too far away to keep going there. I thought maybe she should reach out and introduce herself. Her major involves a lot of road trips for auditions so its impossible to go all out for just one school and one opportunity with crazy odds anyway.

Has anyone else heard that they’re a semifinalist? Still holding out hope that I could be chosen…

@chummy1 Same here! 5 days to go…

At this point, all Richmond Scholars Semi-Finalists have been notified.

Gotta say I am pretty surprised my daughter didn’t get it (33 ACT, 3.93 UW, 14 APs, great essays and recs, and from the other side of the country). I suspect either applying for financial aid or not writing the Spider essay mattered. That said, it wasn’t near the top of her list anyways. Good luck to all who got it!

Wow @Daddio3 I can’t believe she didn’t get it either

@Daddio3 - I was surprised when my D didn’t get it last year. SAT 1460, 3.87 UW GPA, from across the country. We visited and she wrote the spider essay. Applied on time and also for FA.

I wonder if it is applying for financial aid that precludes getting picked, or maybe raising the bar so you almost have to receive a full ride to get it… After all, why offer a scholarship when the financial aid is there anyways? And they can handle merit aid however they want. I’m of course just speculating.

@Daddio3 applying for financial aid has nothing to do with Richmond Scholars. The scholars selection committee does not receive that info (UR is need blind in admissions, except for international students).
I have friends who are also Scholars (like me) and friends that were finalists (but did not receive the scholarship) who applied for financial aid.
