My daughter hasn’t heard yet but her midyear grades have not been received. Her school was supposed to fax her grades today. We received an email from Richmond a few days ago stating that they need her grades and could not process her application without them. Fairfax county is behind. Hopefully we’ll hear early next week.
Does anyone know if they release finalists in waves like they did for semi-finalists… or if everyone’s already heard.
@jule13 @LMHLAW3 It seems that they do send decisions out in waves. My mid year grades were received and processed on 9th Feb, but I still haven’t heard back from Richmond.
I’m not sure they are doing notification in waves because there is a Tuesday Feb 23rd deadline listed to register for the interview. If you were a semi-finalist who has not yet heard anything more, I would call Richmond and ask them.
If I don’t hear back tomorrow, I will call. Ignorance is bliss I guess
Will their offices be open during the weekend? Also, @jule13, could you please let me know what the admissions office tells you? I’m an international student and calling won’t be easy for me. Thanks in advance.
Selected as a Science Red scholar finalist!! Happy beyond words. BTW i am an international from Pakistan.
@terry137 Congratulations! Did you just receive the email?
i received it 9 hours ago (2am in Pakistan). Just saw my email. @badlands
Does anybody know How difficult is it to get through the final round. I heard around 75% of finalists are chosen as scholars. Is it true? To be specific how many science finalist and scholars are there
Hi…has anyone got a rejection email yet? Just curious whether any emails went out telling semi-finalists that they are not finalists.
Has anyone who hasn’t received a finalist notification heard from the university yet?
@Dragonflygarden Where do you see a Feb 23 deadline to register for an interview? In fact when I click on the link in my email to register it takes me to the U of R scholar website where I only see info for the Artist Scholars. And so I am unable to schedule an interview. Anyone else having similar problems. Or no problems registering?
@grouperman It is on the finalist page link in the email. Look just above where it says additional information. It says if you don’t register by Feb 23rd they assume you are no longer interested.
@terry137 there’s usually around 100+ finalists (400 semi finalists) and 45 scholars are chosen. However, they’re also limited by designation.
@guineagirl96 Should I be concerned if I haven’t heard from the University regarding my finalist status? I’m really starting to panic at this point.
Is there any point along the way through the process of becoming a scholar that an applicant needs to bind themselves to attending if they are chosen as a scholar?
@whata777 I dont think so. That would be horrible.
Because just thinking that the resume of some of the applicants that will be chosen as scholars stand a chance of acceptance at some elite schools. So if they award the scholar designation to an applicant that subsequently declines to enroll, do they offer that scholarship to another applicant, or do they just have fewer scholars attend?
@whata777 Being named a scholar is NOT binding to attend. I have known of multiple people who have received the scholarship and not attended. I also received a full-tuition scholarship to another school as well, but obviously had to turn that down when I accepted UR’s offer (the other school did not reoffer my scholarship to anyone else). As for if they offer it to another applicant, I think it depends on how soon someone declines the offer, but I think they rarely if they ever reassign the scholarship (some of the profs say they do, but I have never heard of it happening). My year, for example, the only girl that was offered the Artist scholar for dance (out of 4 finalists in dance that year), did not attend the school because she got into a very competitive and prestigious school for dance. They did not reassign her scholarship, however, and there are no dance scholars in my class. As an added note, they offer 45 scholars, but in the current freshman class, there’s only 37 in attendance I believe.
@badlands Do not worry! Are you FCPS? Many people had gotten their notifications before I did. It has to do with when they receive your mid-year report. Like I said upthread, I received my notification the day after my mid-year report showed up as received on their online system.
