I've seen my fair share of posts from people complaining about commuting... I know there are people out there with something positive to say.

Did you have a hard time making friends and overcome the difficulties? What do you like about living at home? How do you deal with odd meeting times for clubs? Share your experiences.

So, anybody else commuting to college this year and actually satisfied with it?

My brother commutes and he likes it. He is meeting people, but it takes time. As for living at home...of course life there is better than dorm life. Plus, he gives my mother company because he is the only kid at home.

I'm commuting to college this year and I have to say, so far, I'm EXTREMELY happy with it.

At first, I was dying to transfer because the social life at my school was kind of lacking. I was having a hard time meeting new people outside of the people who I see in my classes everyday. It also felt like my college (the commuter school) catered to part time students, which explains all the breaks we have and the fridays off. BUT i've really come to love it.

Like what Central Perky said, it takes time to meet new people. The only way I've been able to meet people so far are from mutual friends or from my classes (the clubs didn't start yet).

The only thing that really sucks about commuting is that I have a curfew, unfortunately, but hey, its all good. I love my staying at my room and I love being in the city. There's always something happening in the city.

my parents force me to - I can read on the bus even more efficiently than I read at home (since I don't get hungry and don't have to get distracted by nearby computers - also I don't feel an urge to explore anywhere)

But I'm trying to avoid everyone at the moment (for several months more at least), so I'm an extreme case

yeah... i really dont like commuting also. My story is that I graduated hs in 2004 went to a small college and had to drive close to an hour in the morning just to get there, and I did that for 2 years. When I finally got admission to my first choice college as a transfer i was so happy. But dorming did not work out like i planned. Now I am back to commuting again, back to square one. By now I have totally missed the college experience and I regret it alot.

I'm commuting this year as a grad student, so the social dynamics for my situation is very different, especially since my school doesn't provide dorms for any graduate students. I did commute for one year during my undergrad though. Neither year seems too bad; I think my social/college life took a minimal hit. It does get tiring though (physically).

I had a hard enough time making friends in primary school, nevermind large lecture halls that I commute to, with a campus of over 35, 000 people.

Not because I'm a nerd (the opposite, actually), but because I only get along well with certain types of people, and have a hard having genuinely freindly conversations with most people.
