any scholarship letters yet?

Scholarships are supposed to be awarded in early March.... and it's March 10th. Has anyone received a scholarship letter?

I emailed the school cuz the FAFSA people revised my EFC, and the answered that the letters were to begin going out this week. I am crossing my fingers for a Tower award.

I got my scholarship letter today :)
It was dated March 7th, so I wouldn't worry just yet.

I got mine today- $72,000!!

My son got one today. Made our day!

Ahh, very happy. 16,000 a year! Woo!

D2 received one today too.

received award today. $12,500

I received my award yesterday in the mail. 16K

Mirabeau & other scholarship winners -- Would you be willing to share your stats? One of my daughter's friends who is a hs junior is interested in LACs in the mid-Atlantic region, but would require a scholarship in the range of 15K per year to make it possible. Thanks and congratulations to all of you.

i recieved the same size scholarship as Mirabeau.

gpa 4.0 uw/4.5 w
rank 2/800
sat I 660/680/710
sat II 730/700
total of 7 APs
marching band, orchestra, wind ensemble, and three academic clubs
some community service

Hudsonvalley51, what I have seen from my son's acceptance to 8 LAC's in that region, is that the term 'scholarship' is in a way deceptive, because he received 'scholarship' $ from all the schools ranging from 3 to 12 thousand, but what happens is that when the schools see your EFC (which your friend can calculate on the estimator on the FAFSA webpage) they pony up the rest to bring you close to or at the amount which leaves you paying your efc. Only Hampshire College gave him more but they use a different methodology and the bulk of the money came from their general grant fund, not specifically entitled scholarship $. Before we entered this process I thought that the schools gave scholarship money after they used your efc so that you would actually end up paying less, but unless you have stats like openyoureyes (Congrats, by the way... that's some record of hard work!!!), I'd look at the EFC first. My son by the way had a 3.18 GPA, SATs/SATIIs in the 650 range (780 Spanish) and amazing international drama outreach extracurriculars, but he is hispanic. Lots of schools were looking for diversity apparently. I think the international travel helped alot. Send the girl on a student trip (have her school contact EFTours... my 2 kids are in Scotland as we speak!!). Good luck, hope to see her at Ursinus.

My son did not receive a scholarship, but his financial aid package included a $27,500 grant, $1000 Perkins loan and $3500 subsidized Stafford, making it a pretty good package.

PRKid, I beg to differ - we do not qualify for financial aid and so don't have an efc. My S received a significant scholarship...

That's a very attractive package. Do you mind me asking if they met your EFC? Congrats!

Reasonwhy, I was referring to cases where there is an EFC. In none of our 8 acceptances did the schools calculate the scholarship after the EFC was met. I wouldn't know how they do it if there is no EFC.

PRKid they subtract what your student received in merit aid when they determine your need. If a school costs 40k, and you were awarded 10k in merit aid and your efc is 20k, your financial need is 10k. It is not 20k (40,000-10,000 schol.=30,000-20,000 efc= 10,000 of financial need). Ursinus on average gaps (does not meet full need) by about 20%.

Quick question:

Are these merit scholarships that, at Ursinus, you are automatically considered for when you apply for admission??

Yes, scholarships are given without applying for them. we made sure that my son had an interview by the deadline date a'lthough I'm not sure it's required -

I received 18,000 a year. I know a mom asked for stats of others so here's mine
GPA: 3.83 unweighted
Rank: 12/201
SAT: 630M 660V 650W
5 APs by the end of this year, 2 college classes (on-site)
cheerleading 4 years, captain 1 year, student body VP junior year, select a capella group (VP of that), Varsity Soccer senior year, Student Representative to the School Board
Hope that helps, perhaps? Because my stats are lower than openyoureyes but we got the same size package so hopefully you have a better idea of the range of that award. An interview was also part of it.
