Because of moving around alot Sophomore Year (from CA to KS and back) I lost all of my furniture and my 4-year plan was ruined because I did not get the classes I wanted.
I go to a really competitive high school (7 kids to Caltech last year)
77 got into Berkeley

So my GPA is a low 3.55 (UW)

But my scores are pretty decent and I was wondering if there are scholarships which only use scores for judgement.

My SAT

CR - 760
M - 800
W - 730
Total - 2290
M + CR - 1560/1600

ACT
E - 35
M - 35
R - 34
S - 33
W - 11/34
C - 34

AP's
Calculus AB - 5
Physics C: Mech - 5
Physics C: Electri and Magnetism - 5

SAT II's (probably my worst)
Math 2 - 790
Physics - 740

I am applying to alot of schools so if you know if they give merit based do tell

Entire UC System
USC
Texas A&M
UT Austin
U Washington
U Colorado - Boulder
U Maryland College Park
U Michigan
U Wisconsin
Rice U
G-tech
Boston U
Johns Hopkins
Carnegie Mellon
Tulane
etc.

I am applying to alot because I don't know how they will view my circumstance.

Wow this was long sorry

I am mainly looking for Scholarships that I don't know about that aren't school affiliated

Our income is <60k so I know that ill get financial aid at some places

I know that some are generous with merit ex: Tulane, BU, Texas A&M

Ohio University gives automatic scholarships to freshmen based on scores and gpa. The Honors Tutorial College is a small, academic college-within-a-college, but very competitive to get into. For an OOS student, the tuition is approx $18,000 per year. With your stats, you would get (again, automatically) two scholarships: The Gateway Award, worth approximately $9000 per year, and the Gateway Trustee Award, worth $6000 per year. That would leave $3000 per year tuition and fees. The awards are renewable for 4 years, so that is a total of $60,000 in scholarship money. Need-based awards are on top of that.

The reputation for OU depends on the department you are in. For Journalism and Media Studies, the departments are top-ranked, and the HTC is great for any dept (although they only accept 1-4 students per dept per year).

It’s hard to turn away from $60K scholarship and $3K/yr total tuition. However (there’s always a “however”), room and board are additional costs.

We were attracted to the school initially because of the financial benefits, but once we started investigating, we fell in love with the place.

All that plus etc.? That is one loooong list. Did you go through the websites to see which ones have auto discounts for GPA/Test scores? If not, that might be a good start to narrowing your search down. There are also some great threads where you can search on the info for “auto” discounts. Are you searching for a particular major? If so, that might help narrow your search. Can your guidance counselor help you focus your list based on the cost criteria? Is this for next fall? Have you done the California apps yet? Have you done the financial calculators to determine your EFC? That might help you understand what federal aid might be out there and what you need to seek out…just some thoughts…

Ya I did, but my SAT was in range while my GPA wasn’t., but my SAT M + CR wa like well in range like 260+ for some, while my GPA was a little lower, will they take my circumstance and higher score into account?

Additionally I am going in for Aerospace Engineering

^ might not be your cup of tea, but UA-Huntsville is very highly regarded in Engineering, with your stats (I believe) you would get full tuition, room and board. It’s all on the website. We visited, not what DS was looking for but they really seem to have it together as far as quality education and co-op.

Are you sure all the UCs have aerospace? I’m also not certain about Rice, Johns Hopkins and Tulane, are you sure about those and aerospace and/or mechanical? Colorado and BU (and probably some others) tend to award to the very top of their incoming class. Are you in the top 10-20% of your high school class as GPA will be assessed based on you in relationship to your classmates? Did you include the Cal States’ with aerospace?

Yes, with your GPA and ACT = a free ride.

UAH’s priority deadline is today. However, sometimes they’re known to award scholarships for later applicants, so contact them if interested.

UAH is med/small and is lacking in a lot of extra-curricular fun stuff on campus, but does have very nice “suites” dorms, a very nice rec center, and excellent engineering programs with fabulous co-op opportunities since it’s located in Cummings Research Park. It does have a Greek system with a new Frat/sorority row with new houses. There is a lot of new stuff being built on campus all the time (I drive by it at least once a month).

^ actually, as far as getting the full-ride, that scholarship is automatic based on test scores/GPA, we asked and were told specifically that just had to apply and be accepted by JUNE 1 (!!!) to qualify for the award.
Their scholarship app (due today) is for additional scholarships, not the automatic ones. A good thing to keep in your back pocket, though I guess there’s always the chance of them changing the rules later on…

The OP will definitely “get in places” given this long list, my advice to the OP would be to define what is important - is it aerospace (as opposed to mechanical) or is it cost or is it location. If cost is important then certainly there are schools with mechanical, possibly with aerospace that will cost “less” than other schools, but deadlines are fast approaching or past for some schools and the “big scholarships”. Tulane, Rice and Hopkins feel alittle random. Not sure if the OP has applied all these places, not sure what the “etc.” is in the list. Not sure if the OP knows what the budget is or calculated an EFC…alittle too random of a post to make concrete suggestions. Purdue has some nice scholarships and aerospace for this level of stats but had a Nov. 15 app deadline, I think. So I’m scratching my head abit here in Dec. If the apps are done, the OP will have his/her answer in time.

AL34…Thanks for the update. That makes sense. I know my friend’s son missed the Dec 1st deadline last year, but still got a nice scholarship. Now, I know why. :)

Also, keep in mind that next year UAH is requiring all freshmen and sophs to live on campus. That will surely help quickly develop more on-campus extra-curriculars to involve all those kids.

I am very undecided, but I am going in for Aerospace at the Universities that have it, and mech. on a few and Biomed at the ones known for their medicals like Tulane/Hopkins/Boston etc.

I was wondering if there are any scholarships from non-college sources like siemens etc. that people know about that only focus on scores or math/science
