Hey Guys, its my Junior year and im about to graduate. I'm currently ranked top 2% in my graduating class, am going to major in computer science, and am not currently financially able to afford college. Besides federal aid, what scholarships can i do? Please list them :) Also, i saw somewhere here a list of colleges that if i get accepted i don't have to pay for college at all, and a list of ivy leagues were there too, so if anyone can post that too, that would be great. Thanks again!

The vast majority of large scholarships are given out by the school. The school you state you wouldn’t have to pay for meet financial need. Do you come from a low income family? What kind of grades/scores do you have? What can your family afford?

o, i saw somewhere here a list of colleges that if i get accepted i don’t have to pay for college at all, and a list of ivy leagues were there too, so if anyone can post that too, that would be great. Thanks again!

???

what list is that? There isn’t a list of schools where its accepted students go for free, except military academies and maybe one or two odd school.

Schools like the ivies only give FULL aid to students who are low income. Everyone else has to pay some/all costs.

Private scholarships are not the way to go. Those are often small and only for one year…and very hard to get.

To get scholarships for ALL four years, you need to apply to the schools that give them.

Is your family low income? The schools that give full aid are the hardest to get into.

If you also want to apply to schools that give large merit scholarships, then there are some, but you’ll need high test scores and GPA for those schools.

Are you graduating early? If so, I don’t think that’s a good idea. You need to apply to the schools that either meet need or give huge merit.

We need more info.

When do you graduate?

What are your test scores and GPA?

What state are you in?

HOw much will your family pay?

Did you take the PSAT? how did you do?

Are you low income, middle income, upper middle (like above 80k), high income (above $130k or so)?

My family has low income. We make at most 30k? No i am not graduating early. I graduate 2013, My gpa is 4.1ish, top 2% of class, I get mostly A’s and some Bs. In NJ. I do not want my parents to pay and chances are they can’t. I took the Psats, not great, 1500, but i’ve been practicing and aim for 2000+ by sept senior year.

So now what are my chances?

Ok…more questions…

Are you in a single parent family? If so, some will look at your non-custodial parent’s income as well.

If you don’t have a non-custodial parent, then it sounds like you might qualify for a Pell Grant. That could be up to $5550 per year.

Since you’re thinking CS, you need to look at the SCHOOLS that will give large merit scholarships for your test scores.

when will you take the SAT? Also take the ACT…you need the best scores you can to get the most favorable financial situation.

No I have a mom and dad together. And okay i took the sats in May but im just hoping for a 1700+ for now. And i will take it one more time in Oct and am going to ( with the hard work over the summer) 2000-2200. And Yes i also plan on taking the act as well.

Since you’re low income and in NJ, that’s a good place to start. I think NJ gives good aid to low income students attending NJ publics. If so, then that aid combined with federal aid, may be enough to afford some NJ publics as matches or safeties.

then, if you do end up scoring higher on the ACT or SAT (take the Sept ACT), then you’ll have a better chance at the privates that meet need.
