I’ve been looking through deadlines and aid info and I think I’ll try UCF [still looking at others]. I’m a NV resident so UNLV and UNR might work as well. A gap year isn’t an option [my parents would kill me] so I might do a year somewhere and try transferring next spring [with safeties this time around].

It is much easier to get merit money as a freshman than as a transfer student, so if you’re truly in need of a full ride and you can’t get it this year, you’re going to be better off taking a gap year and trying again next year with a strategy for getting a full tuition/room & board merit scholarship. If your parents are not able/willing to contribute to your education, I have to think they will understand your thinking in taking a gap year and not kill you. Having gotten almost all the way through the teenage years with you, they probably want to keep you alive and well so they can enjoy the adult you will soon become.

this place called sterling college is still accepting apps. i get emails everyday.

or you could just take a year off and apply next year

lsu accepts applications until 04/15
ole miss until july.

We learned this by asking. . . even if a deadline for admission has passed, as a NMF they might wave the deadline issue. Make sure you speak with someone in the office that seeks NMF. . . they are still hungry and may walk it through for you. Some have offered to do that for my son.

Has anyone applied to Michigan State, Clemson, Minnesota, or Kansas recently and received merit aid?

Note: I am not certain that all of these schools use rolling admissions, so no worries if I am totally wrong about any of those schools.

Uh… which Wesleyan? Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT is not accepting apps…

Many years ago, I was a NMF and missed deadlines through inattention (I was out of school and working). I called up the dean of the state school I wished to attend (a competitive program that had a low admission rate) and after a short interview I was in, three months after the official deadline! They were that desperate for high SAT scores!

I don’t know if it still works like that, but you might be surprised by the power of a high score.

University of South florida offers quite a bit of money (either full ride or almost to that point) (for fl resident like me, its $48,000 plus $2000 travel abroad plus free laptop plus $2000 from honors program)…i know for a fact that their NMF scholarship is still open until april 28th. If you’re interested, give them a call and tell them their situation because they understand about the late application and that scholarship being a huge factor.

My D just got a call from OHIO Wesleyan that they are still accepting applications and have merit money left.

Might also try Eckerd in St. Petersburg Florida. Extraordinary school and underrated by all except CTCL. They have rolling. Do not go by their student profile stats in Princeton or US News. They don’t report stats like other colleges.

I have seen NYU-Poly sending emails for me to apply still. Good luck!

is SUNY albany still accepting applications?

I think UC Riverside is still accepting applications.

A couple of things:
If your parents are unwilling or unable to pay anything for your education, they don’t get a vote as to whether or not you take a gap year. It may be worth it to stand up to them now and face a few years of awkward relations if it means that in the end, you get the education and the life that you want–even if it means finding another place to stay next year.

Also, I’m not sure why people recommended St. Andrews–there’s just about no aid for out-of-country students.

You may want to check out schools that participated in the Western Undergraduate Exchange, through which you may be able to get in-state tuition at an out-of-state school. (I’m not sure about scholarships at this late date, but you have nothing to lose. Start making phone calls!) And if it comes down to attending UNLV or having to take out a little bit of money in loans, know that it’s not the end of the world.

U of Central Florida I think is still accepting (I keep getting emails) and also gives NMF $$

Has anyone applied to Michigan State, Clemson, Minnesota, or Kansas recently and received merit aid?

a. I know that Michigan State offers full ride + stipend to NMF (I got info in the mail) and their deadline is still open. Clemson also offers near full ride (or full ride not positive) but I’m not sure about the others.

Pitt’s scholarship deadline has passed, but I agree with the previous poster who said to contact the schools directly (such as ASU) and ask if you can still apply. You don’t have anything to lose!

ASU admissions closed March 1st due to budget caps. Check other state Universities such as University of Texas(s)

A gap year is looking better and better. Maybe get started planning that.
