Yay! Penn Oh-Ten SEAS!

Also, was I the only one who got a harping from people because UPenn apparently is not that good for engineering?

Also, was I the only one who got a harping from people because UPenn apparently is not that good for engineering?

Hi! I'm a 2010 Seas-er as well. And haha nope you're not alone, same here. Not many people get that i'm going to penn for engineering. I'm choosing Penn cos it gives the biomechanical lean to a mech eng degree I'm hoping for, but I'm still caught up in what everyone says about penn engineering. :p What're you planning to major in?

"Not many people get that i'm going to penn for engineering."

Ah! I totally understand. Right now, I'm listed as a chemE, but I entirely intend on switching to bioengineering because I've been caught up in pharmaceutical stuff lately. Wow, biomech is an awesome field to go into--I've heard so much about it!

Hope to see you around!

Oh well for bioengineering Penn's really renowned! A Penn student at a university fair had said to me as well that it had one of the best bioe programmes in the US. I'm actually listed for bioe myself, still thinking it might be a possibility. (:

Likewise! Housing plans?

Oh man... I've always wanted to go for the high-rises, so I applied for Rodin and Harnwell, then Gregory. I know that I'll maybe miss out on lots of the social aspects, but I have friends who are living in the high-rises and love it--they say that they find friends easily anyways. Also, I think that, esp. as an engineering major, I need some semblance of quiet in my dorm! ;) How 'bout you?

Hill! I've heard awful things about the rooms there :p but I'm too lazy to walk far for breakfast and for all my engineering classes! Looks cosy and friendly too. (:

Enjoy your time in Penn!! (:

Thanks, you too!

If you're engineering, don't go for the high rises unless you enjoy loooooooooooonnnnnggggggggg walks.

Advice for any incoming BE students: do not let BE100 discourage you! Like most intro classes, it isn't representative of the major as a whole (I'm not BE but I know enough people who are/were that I think I'd be doing the program justice by saying this)

as someone who has taken be 100, i can attest that while the course is not representative of the major as a whole, it does include tons of teamwork-based projects that are a foretaste of senior design projects, and also provides an introduction to the sort of lab work to be done in be 209 and beyond.

MechE major here. I got the "why are you going to Penn for engineering????" thing too. Um, because I love the school?

I plan to major in Bioengineering in the fall and have some questions for current students about freshmen year courses.

Based on the engineering handbook, Penn suggests that BSE freshmen take the following courses during their first term:
BE100, Math104(I will most likely be taking Math 114), PHYS 140, CHEM101 with lab and an elective.

Is it just me or does this seem a little excessive. I was led to believe that one shouldn't take multiple science and math courses in the same semester. I may be wrong.

I am trying to do pre-med

quite frankly, if you don't take multiple math and science courses in a semester, you'll never graduate on time.

the suggested courses are routine.
