Any seniors planning on taking the October 2011 ACT?

I am using PR right now. Hopefully it’ll help me raise my score. I screwed up last time because I neglected to study…this time will be different! Just a little over a month to go.

Would it be too late to take them in November?

I took the SAT in June and am taking the SAT IIs in October but it’s always good to have another (hopefully good) test score to show colleges, right?

I’m taking it for the first time in Oct. as well. I took the practice test on the official website and I like the format a lot better than the SAT. Plus the science portion imo helps me quite a bit and I scored better on the practice ACT than the SAT by a significant amount.

Is this test date acceptable for Early Decision?

I don’t think so for most schools that have the Nov 1st deadline. I wonder if they will still take the best score, if it’s this one, when it finally arrives though.
This is what’s making me consider whether or not to apply early decision.

I thought there wasn’t a November test date?

I think October is good for ED at most schools but you should check because there are always exceptions.

No, I meant the schools with a Nov. 1 early decision deadline.
But my friend said they count it when it comes in, so I hope!

I signed up for the October 22nd test date

Got a 29 in September, a 31 in June, and registered for October for that 33+!

@Tofupapa:

Best of luck! I am giving it one more whirl in October so hopefully we both see those higher scores!

Senior here. Definitely did worse in September so I’m sitting in on the October one, just in time for UChicago’s EA deadline.

31+ please!

Good luck with your test and UChicago ChickenFriedRice!

What book are you guys using to study?
Nina-I saw you like Princeton review?
Is the new version of the Red book by ACT with real test (whatever it is called) out yet? I did all the tests in the old one for the April test!
Taking for the last time in October too!

I am using the princeton review prep book, is that a good one to use?

I have never taken it before and I am a senior!! Any tips?

I am using PR. It seems to be really good, however this is the first time I have used it so I cannot say how much of an effect it will have on my score. It can’t hurt though right? :)

I agree nina1228, thanks!
Have you taken the ACT before?

Yes…three times ;).

Yes I know taking the ACT repeatedly looks bad, BUT I am taking it this time mainly for merit scholarship consideration, not really for admissions purposes.

How did you do?
This will be the first and most likely only time I will be taking the ACT…
I plan to study a different section every night and then do a practice test or two every weekend until the test.
Do you have any tips? Did you take the SAT as well? How did they compare?
My super-scored SAT score is 2150 (680CR 700M 770W).

I haven’t taken the regular SAT and probably won’t. I didn’t do too badly on the PSAT, but I absolutely hated the way the test was structured. Since most colleges don’t prefer either test, I just stuck with the ACT. My highest score is a 33. Oddly enough, although I have taken the test 3 times, this is the first one I am actually preparing for. I am not trying to brag that I got a decent score without studying, I am kicking myself that those other three tries were probably wasted when I may have been able to do better with a little studying. Hopefully this time I can remedy that :)
