Hey all, what do you think my chances are if I would apply ED? Just for fun, could pick "your competitive" or "you never know" or "no way Jose" ? That'd be great :P

I'm a white, male from WA state (eastern part, not Seattle), and will be a senior.

My school doesn't offer AP's, but I'll have a bunch of credits from my local community college.

2 yrs. National Honor Society Member (that's the max @ my school)

9 years private guitar instruction (I ROCK!!!)
participant of UDOC (a competitive pre-med interested program)
80+ hrs. volunteering @ local hospital
will have 200+ hrs. volunteering in ER by end of senior year

Calculus your sophomore year? I must say that is very impressive. I would say you stand a descent chance. Not sure how the 200+ hours by the end of Senior year will count. Talk more about volunteering with scouts. I, being a scout myself (only Life...) have done tons of hours volunteering and I have no idea about the hours. But, if you talk about the things you did I think that carries more weight than x amount of hours doing this, and x amount of hours doing that.

Yes, you have a shot. Not a shoe-in (few are), but certainly you have a good shot. ED will help you lots. One thing - your ECs are good and you have accomplished plenty but you'll have to make sure in your essay to show a human/passionate/compassionate invovlement in them. I say this because math, knowledge bowl, NHS, and hospital volunteering (i've done it for 3 years and there's really not much patient contact allowed in US hospitals, is there : / ?) may pale in that aspect when compared to say, working with retarded children, captaining a soccer team to the state champs or overcoming a huge personal difficulties. Good luck!

Jacq: ATM I'm only a Life too :< BUT I will hopefully be an Eagle by the time I turn the ED app in. And the Calc thingy is due to the fact that I was skipped ahead a year in math and then doubled up my sophomore year in math. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'll be taking Multivariable and Linear Algebra my senior year.

Mea: Nope, don't have anything that "meaningful." Gosh, you really have to actually do something now-a-days that's worth while :P I know what you mean by the little patient contact, because I spent most of my time stuffing pillow cases and cleaning stretchers...HURRAY FOR BEING A VOLUNTEER JANITOR!!

Though I know that this is pretty tough to do, what would you rate my chances at? 20%? 50%? If I were to guess I'd say 30-40% if I did ED. You think that's off or pretty close?

Lotus - ooh nono you misunderstood me. Your ECs aren't less meaningful. You're very accomplished. I just wanted to warn you that your essay would be crucial in really bringing out your warm and human side, because as listed, 'Math Champ' and 'Knowledge Bowl Whiz' don't speak for themselves.

ah, in percentages....I'd say you have a better chance than you're guessing. Hard to place a number on it tho. Again, good luck : ) and write a good essay.

You're like me lotus...except you've got more meaningful EC's... so your chances are higher than me...crap...AND you're gonna be applying ED same as me.... grrr

Don't beat yourself up, because I'm sure that there are TONS of people who are far ahead of the both of us for likelyhood of being accepted :{ oh well, no reason not to try!
