Any successful CSU to UC Transfers? Please Help

Hey everyone, I’m currently a student at CSU Dominguez Hills and although I’m only a current freshmen I am hoping to transfer to UC Irvine or UC Davis as a junior. Those two schools in particular are two of my dream schools which I got rejected by as a school senior and although I got rejected by them, I don’t intend to give up until I accomplish my goals by attending one of my dream schools. I’m completely aware that transfer applicants from 4 year universities are last priority and that not all my units will transfer over so please don’t say that I should’ve gone to a CC or that I should transfer to one because the misguidance of my former high school teachers and councilor already caused me enough harm. Although I’m current freshmen, I’ve already completed 20 CSU/UC by taking AP Spanish and a lot of community college classes throughout my high school career to make up for the units that won’t transfer over. Currently I’m taking an basic english workshop ( not transferable I know), THE 120-14 ( Fundamentals of Public Speaking), Math 195-10 ( Selected Topics in Mathematics), Kin 180-21( Fitness Boot Camp), and SOC 102-02 (Understand Social Relationships in Global Context). For the Fall I’m planning to take ENG 110 ( Freshmen Composition 1), Pol 100 (General Studies Political Science: World Perspectives), Bio ( General Biology), and ART 100 ( Looking at Art). I know that I must use Asist.org to match up the course descriptions but the thing is I don’t know how. My current major is Political Science and my GPA is a 3.11 which isn’t all impressive but I fully intend to bring it u and I also have enough time to do so. Also, I’m planning to take CSU/ UC transferable classes during the summer at a local community college but the thing is I’m not exactly sure which ones I need to take. For the people who have successfully transferred from a CSU to UC, please drop down the courses you guys took that transferred over to a UC and some help on how to use Assist.org. Also, please state your extra curricular activities. I wan’t to get general idea of what actions I must take in order to successfully transfer. Thanks

Since UC Davis and Irvine are in the TAG program, I would consider leaving CSUDH and continuing your education at your local community college. To be eligible for TAG, you need to complete 30 semester/45 quarter units at a California CC prior to applying with TAG.

Here are some links for the TAG program. You can only TAG to one school and you still apply to the other(s).

As I understand it, if your goal is to transfer then there really is no upshot to taking classes at CSUDH. I’d go visit some local CCs as soon as possible (perhaps El Camino, Harbor, LBCC or Cerritos if you live south) and discuss your options with them. I would guess you’d be best served by going to CC starting next semester. You’ll also save quite a bit in tuition.

Good luck!

Yeah that’s sounds like a good idea. I plan to visit my local community college that helped me obtain 17 units of
CSU/UC Transferable units which helped me complete a couple sections of my general ed though I don’t plan to attend a cc next semester or next school year because that wouldn’t look good in a job application because that shows a lack of commitment. Transferring in two years is fine because that itself gives people more time to consider what they wan’t to do for themselves. It gives them more time to grow and think.

Keep in mind that UC applies a unit cap (80~90 semester units max) to people who have units from 4 year colleges. If you exceed it you won’t be allowed to transfer even from CC.

For students who have only done CC then there’s no unit cap. But the unit cap shouldn’t carry matter if you plan carefully.

The unit cap only comes into effect with upper division courses. Lower division at a CSU (or in combo with a CC) have the same rules - they just cap any overflow at 70.

A couple of points -

First, you are significantly over estimating the value of a UC degree vs CSU. With a major like poly sci, CSUDH vs UCD simply won’t matter 5 years down the road. Especially if you are looking at an advanced degree like a JD.

Second, nobody knows or cares how long it takes you to graduate or if you came through a JC when you are applying for a job.

Finally, you will need better than a 3.1 to make the transfer - even through TAG.
