<p>I was thinking of applying to transfer from UCR to UCLA's linguistics major in two years time and I emailed the UCR academic advisor and she said that she doesn't recommend that I take a language my first quarter. either way, the placement exams are all filled up I think. However, one of the requirements for UCLA's linguistics is "completion of the sixth term of one foreign language and the third term of a second foreign language." I'm just wondering if anyone got in with just 5 terms of a foreign language? ... And do the UC's look down on you if you take courses in the summer prior to applying to transfer?</p>
