Any suggestion to learn English?

I just moved from China to TX last summer, and I am a currently a freshman in high school. I feel it's really hard to convert the language, I have some difficulties talking with my classmates. And I really want to participate some EC's, but I can't really fit into those activities.
Any suggestion for learning English and join the EC's?

To learn English: read, read, read, read, read! Even if it's hard at first.

That's right. It's the best way to improve your English. Don't forget to use a dictionary, though.

I'd echo that... Reading's the key to developing English. I'd also recommend listening to a good news station like the BBC or something. Very helpful for pronounication and speech and the like... :)

An other question, how many times can we take the SAT1 and SAT2?
And why are some students wearing air force uniform at school several times a week? What's that for?

I would suggest that u should interact with ur friends as much as possible...
Practical approach is a dominating factor...

READ. period

I agree, read. Read magazines, newspapers, anything. I mean active reading--looking up words you don't know, noting in your head the new grammatical structures and phrases you see, etc.

yes, definately watch bbc world news instead of abc world. the former is much more thorough and realy concerns about the entire world. the american news focuses on iraq and rudely ignores africa or other parts of asia.

tyrus,

You can take the SAT I/II as many times as you want. Go to www.collegeboard.com to find out about... pretty much everything. :D

And the army uniform you're talking about, they're ROTC people. Basically they're in this program that trains them/introduces them to what it takes to be in the air force.

What's ROTC and air force?
Can you learn to drive a plane after that training?

ROTC teaches basic knowledge of the military.

You can learn to fly a plane in the real Air Force (空军), but not Air Force JROTC.

I learned English by watching TV-series and Films without Subtitles and by reading books. Chatting on the net also helps.

Good luck.

watch tv&movies, but with subtitles! that's the ways I do it!! 'cause when u listen and read simultaneously u learn a lot faster!!.. also!! sing!! yeah that really helps with the speaking part!! hope it helps! :D

i don't u should force it. just let it sink it naturally. i don't think u need to give any extra effort to learn english becase it's such an easy language compared to like french or arabic.. i mean, pretty soon u will want to read some difficult novels and that will sort of improve ur english without u even knowing it.

if u think english is hard, i don't know what to say... just thank god that english has no cases, no major conjugations, no gender (and all the hellstorm of agreements that tails with it)..

it's a real pain to learn some REALLY deeply rich languages like latin or arabic

I HATE Latin ^^

Chinese is said to be pretty tough too.

That's because you guys' first language is English. And foreigners said that Chinese is the hardest, but that's nothing for me

tyrus where are from?
