Any suggestions for a very average student?

Any advice for a very average (88 average) student with very average SAT scores?

First figure out what your interests are. It will help you narrow things down.

you probably won’t get much on this forum since the people here are typically aiming at selective or very selective colleges.

But there are thousands of colleges in this country, and most accept the majority of their applicants. Think about it; how could most colleges fill their spaces with kids in the top 10% or top 25%? There aren’t enough to go around!

I suggest getting a good book on college admissions, pronto, since time is already getting short. One I like is “Admission Matters”. You need to learn about financial aid so that you spend your time focused on schools you can afford. Next is figuring out what type(s) of colleges would be right for you – urban or rural, large or small in student body & class size, type of students it tends to attract, how much guidance you’ll get/want (faculty advisor, career center), etc. After that its a matter of picking out colleges that are a fit and affordable, ranging in selectivity from those that would be a reach for you to one that is certain to accept you.

There are several B student/3.0 student threads (Jewish, Western 2012 student) on the Parent’s Forum. It may be helpful to you to look thru some of them for ideas.

For people to help you on this thread more information is needed such as how much you can afford, rural/urban, big/small etc.

Annsix: just so you realize: you are not an ‘average’ student. It may seem this way with all the 4+ students on these forums, but a B+/A- is not average at all, it is very above average.

Remember, a C is average. You are still in the top tier of high school students overall.
