Any suggestions for low(er)-cost Caribbean destinations in December?

D2 asked me to ask my “circle.” She doesn’t know this is my most reliable circle. Thank you in advance!

When I was looking for an all inclusive for my son, it seemed like Jamaica, Punta Cana, and Cancun/the Riviera Maya were less expensive than some of the other options. That said, I was concerned about safety in those places.

We did an all inclusive the n Jamaica and had a wonderful week. Met really good people.

As a family trip, I would have been fine with those places (I’ve been to 2). But he hasn’t traveled much by himself, so I was overprotective.

Some of the resort hotels in Puerto Rico are really nice…and no passport needed.

When in December? Are you hoping for this year?

Isn’t that high season? Might be hard to find budget friendly prices.

D needs to use vacation days before the end of the year. Maybe I’ll pump her budget as a Christmas present.

Very expensive during the last ten days of December and many places impose a minimum length of stay. I also imagine that the high occupancy rates might result in a less enjoyable experience. Crowded chaise lounges, difficulty obtaining dinner reservations, etc.

Can she travel earlier in December? Much better prices then.

Thanks for the suggestions. I welcome them all.

The first two weeks of December are the best time to find a good value. Last two weeks of December will be very expensive no matter where you go.

Without knowing what types of things your D likes it is hard to make recommendations. Personally I really only know laid back quiet areas and I doubt a young person would be interested:)

The flight is part of the cost so some of it depends on where you live. Consider the Dominican Republic. Depending on connections, and it isn’t Caribbean, consider Cabo San Lucas.

If you want low cost, then better to focus on regions in the world that are not in High Season.

We’ve done some great, cheap winter-time trips to Europe. And no crowds!

You can also check out apple vacations as they often have very reasonable all-inclusive deals. If your daughter is willing to wait last minute, they often have great deals. We went to an island off Venezuela through an apple vacation - cheap, all inclusive, very nice.

We used to go to Cinnamon Bay campgrounds, but apparently they are closed for renovations currently.

Yes, I am sure Venezuela would be a bargain! Maybe get a nice layover in Afghanistan. And don’t forget to bring your own food.

Cinnamon Bay is reopening in November under new management.

@WISdad23 I didn’t recommend Venezuela, there are several islands off Venezuela that have nothing to do with Venezuela (just giving a general location of those islands, not a rec of Venezuela). Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Also the actual rec was for apple vacations.

I found vacationstogo to have cheaper prices than Apple, but it may just be timing.

@beebee3 I know. I was just kidding. Too bad Venezuela has been run into the ground so badly.

There’s a definite price difference starting at about December 15.
