so i've already turned in my boston u, duke u, and ny u college apps including supplements and payments and teacher recs. i sent them all in on time, right before their dead lines. now i'm missing my counselor rec and transcript, something my school cannot give me until 1/12 or so. do you think that'll be too late? i know ny u and boston u will take counselor recs a little late, but i'm worried about the transcripts...i know i should have asked for them sooner but i didn't and now i can't do anything about it but wait...any advice?

the general consensus seems to be that schools are more flexible about admission materials that the student cant control

…but as always its always safest to contact the schools individually by email or phone to explain your situation

good luck!

oh ok, thanks so much!

Wow. Why would a college WANT a student who is so careless with his/her own life path? I mean, by all means, let the admissions office know if you’ve been hospitalized or had other challenges that prevented you from ordering the transcripts. But if, since September, you’ve had time to eat out, hang with friends, surf the internet, etc., then WHY would one of these selective schools think you are a great addition to their campus?

I know I sound harsh here – but it might be time to think that through from the admissions officer point of view.

You may get lucky. Some admissions offices may say “arrrgh, they be guidelines. No worries.” Others may say “January 2 means January 2.” You’ll have to contact each admission office individually to find out . . . and perhaps you should. If it turns out that all the schools you listed are hard core (ie, no flexibility on that date), then you still have time to scramble over to the thread that lists later application dates (several dozen colleges) and see what is on the list that would work for you.

Don’t fiddle while your future burns. Find out what each school has to say about late transcripts – and cope accordingly . . . very quickly. Good luck!
