any suggestions?

I need my first laptop for college. But I have no idea where to start. I would like a laptop with good graphic card so that i can play some online games. I used PC all my life and i don't know if mac's will work for me. The cost doesn't really matter but it shouldn't be too costly.. I also wondering if there are any deals to get a printer with that laptop. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

bump. Any suggestions will be helpful

just order from a major manufacture’s store

would recommend just going into a store like best buy or office depot and asking around. i think best buy tends to have slightly more gaming oriented machines.

4 gb of ram and a core 2 duo processor 2.4+ ghz and a video card of 512+ mb will play most modern games. as a warning, you dont by a laptop for gaming. its not going to play anything recent on max settings.

I would strongly suggest against doing this. Most employees in a retail environment will sell you the most expensive machine and tell you its the best. Do your research online first and then visit the stores. Free printer w/ laptop purchase will be more common around Late July-September, but check the ads weekly now.

research online. google, tech blogs, cnet, etc. can be very helpful sources…definitely don’t ask around in a store like Best Buy or Office Depot; most of the employees aren’t actually that knowledgeable.

Get a Lenovo ThinkPad. They’re extremely durable (very high build quality), have great battery life, and will last you for all 4 years of undergrad (and most likely beyond that). The [R series](<a href=“Lenovo Official US Site | Laptops, PCs, Tablets & Servers | Lenovo US”>Lenovo Official US Site | Laptops, PCs, Tablets & Servers | Lenovo US) starts at $650, the [T series](<a href=“Lenovo Official US Site | Laptops, PCs, Tablets & Servers | Lenovo US”>Lenovo Official US Site | Laptops, PCs, Tablets & Servers | Lenovo US) at $750, and the [X series](<a href=“Lenovo Official US Site | Laptops, PCs, Tablets & Servers | Lenovo US”>Lenovo Official US Site | Laptops, PCs, Tablets & Servers | Lenovo US) at $1000. I have a T400, and it’s the best laptop I’ve ever used (better than Dells, HPs, Sony’s, Macs, etc.).

This is entirely true. You’re best off asking questions either here or on the [NotebookReview Forums](<a href=“TechnologyGuide - TechTarget”>http://forum.notebookreview.com/).

after researches, i think i’m down to two.
VGN-NS240 vaio [Sony - VAIO Laptop with Intel® Centrino® Processor Technology - Silk White - VGN-NS240E/W](http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9155601&type=product&id=1218038553190)

and lenovo’s thinkpad t400

any thoughts? i chose vaio ns series… mostly for price and pretty good graphic

the sony is a better deal.

How about the ns compared to the cs model.

Go to the Sony website (link above) and read about the CS. It has lights that flash and glow. I liked everything about the laptop except the lights. I asked a sales rep (via the chat feature on their website) if there was a way to disable the lights and was told “No”. Son ended up choosing a Dell Studio instead because the idea of glowing and flashing lights seemed like it would get annoying.

I’ve never actually seen the glowing/flashing lights in person. You might want to find one in a local store and play around with it and witness the lights. Maybe the lights aren’t as bad as we assumed they would be.
