Any Surprising Semester Grades?

So all year AP World History has been RIDICULOUSLY hard. 5 page essays and 15 page outlines due each Monday on a chapter from our book. In 1st quarter, we had to do TWO chapters a week, so we had 10 pages of essays and 30 pages of outlines due on Monday. In 2nd quarter she cut the chapters back to one per week, but she also had us do a Term Paper on a world leader (I picked Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) that was 33 pages long.

The work isn't a problem tbh, the real problem was that she would ALWAYS change the rubric for w/e we were doing without telling us and then giving us a lower grade on her changed rubric. For example, she'd tell us how to do the essay, and then she'd give us 85%'s because during the week she came up with another way to do the essay. In fact, 1 week I got an 87/100 on one of my essays because of ONE ****ING WORD. I used some general word instead of a specific word in my intro, and she complained that I need to specificly say what I was going to be talking about in the body, so she took off 13 points........................

So throughout the semester I'd be getting high B's on my essays, occasionally an A. LUCKILY, she always gave out multiple choice tests which I dominate on, so I would always get an automatic 100% on all the tests.

So today in class she decided to make it a "grades" only day and she sat down individually with each person and added up our grades to see what our semester grade would be.

SOMEHOW, I managed to get a 90.19 for second quarter. I was honestly amazed because I only got an 86 for my term paper (a very large chunk of our grade). In first quarter I got an 89%, and since they average the two quarters grades together, I got an 89.5, the lowest possible A.

I was honestly in disbelief when I found out I got an A. She told me that I was the first person in 2 years to get an A in her class, so I was pretty psyched. The best part about this A was that it secures me as valedictorian for my class so far. The only other guy taking as hard a courseload as I am got a B in the class. =D =D =D

Any of you other guys get any surprising grades? Good or bad?

Well, apparently I have a B in orchestra because I haven't been following the policy "if you're late more than 3 times, I will change your grade."

=( 7 in the morning is such an ungodly hour.

Wow, congrats on the A! That's quite the achievement.
For me, I just had a surprisingly easy math exam, so that should pull my grade up from a B+ to an A- in the class.

I do believe you are not actually taking AP World History. In fact, it may be kin to the SAT III; it is something we like to call Super AP World History.

But seriously, your teacher sounds like a Nazi. Does she honestly read 33 page papers from every student in the class?

I ended up with an A in English when I thought I bombed the final and an A- in accounting. I was psyched

nope... I'll probably get a B+ in history when I've gotten A-/A on the quizzes and tests... Stupid ****

That class must be a nightmare! I wrote a 14-page essay for AP Lit and I thought that that was distressing.

I was so shocked to find out that my stat teacher changed my grade from an 84 toa 94 cuz i got a 95 on my last test :D! Also, I got the highest grade on my chem exam! :D. But, my french test was surprisingly EXTREMELY difficult. I don't know what I got, but hopefull it's >= C

I got an A in AP Econ :D Literally my grade is 90.00 exactly. I had a C for a first quarter grade and my final exam (which I thought I bombed D:) was an A. I'm so happy! <3

Grats on everyone else who was happy with their suprise grades!

my midterm in french 2 is all week. we did listening activities which seemed easy to me besides the last section. we did those yesturday.

today, we did reading and i found it very easy compared to the usual tests! horayy! i hope i did well.

congrats to everyone else..=]=]

Your AP World teacher sucks. Writing 33 page essays and outlines isn't preparing you for the AP World History exam, which includes neither of those.

The fact that you can even get a 100 on the tests says something about the multiple choice prep as well.

Out of everyone, the highest someone usually gets on a test in my AP World class (which are all made in AP style and format, including DBQs and comparatives from memory) is around a 75% or so, and anything above a 50% is considered good.

Agreed with Cono. Our teacher gave us no homework in AP world besides filling out a factual study guide per chapter/week. I got an easy 5 and so did most of our class. Is your AP world teacher new? New teachers tend to give an excessive amount of useless homework to make up for their relative lack of experience.

Somehow, what with missing two days of research in English and various other nightmares in that class, I came out with a final grade of A-. The day I found out was one of the happiest of my life.

My 95% final in Calc BC bumped my grade from an 86 to a 91. He replaces our lowest quiz grade with our final grade as well as it counting 15%.

But then my AP Lang grade dropped 11 points in one week, no joke. I also got a 95 on that final, so I'm contesting the grade, biggest BS I've ever seen and the teacher is sticking with it.

somehow I received a 97 or better in all of my classes. Can someone say grade inflation?

Yeah, but surprising in the sense that my A in electronics suddenly dropped to a B+ on the last possible assignment because there was an extra credit assignment that suddenly turned mandatory and I only halfway did it. Sucks.

But seriously, your teacher sounds like a Nazi. Does she honestly read 33 page papers from every student in the class?*

Yea, she says she wakes up at like 2 in the morning to grade because that's when "she thinks more clear".

Well I'm actually good at history. I got an 800 on the SAT2.

The good: By some miracle I managed to get a A in my cc philosophy class. I probably spent about only thirty hours of work for this class over the entire semester, and the only assignments were the midterm, the final, and a ten page paper on the Republic. My paper was the worst thing I've ever written, as I didn't exactly read it, and my final was about 75% made up.

The bad: It's looking as if I might actually get a A-, or even a B in ap chem. I have no idea what is happening. I went into the four day final with a 101.6, the first day went well, a 99. The last two days have been complete disasters. I have the main part on Friday and can hardly cope with it. Also, I'm facing a B in math, which I've breezed through this semester. Ack!!

I miraculously raised my grade in Ap euro to 92.7 from 85.4, but I haven't taken my midterm yet...

89 1SG for APAH (online... my parents, administration, and even me.. literally thought I was going to fail this course.

Other surprises:
100 1SG in Honors English I
89 Second nine-weeks in Engineering The Future Honors (bringing my grade down to a 93.)
