Any tennis players out there?

Any of you play tennis?? Have you ever competed in tournaments or play for varsity team?? Just wondering how many people here play tenis, like I do. Just wondering, how hard is it to get into well known colleges through tennis (Recruit Athlete Division 3 Eg. MIT, JHU) ... since I am pretty decent, but not that good, played in Varsity Team and couple of junior tournaments.

Division 3 doesn't recruit. You have to get in normally and then just go and try out for the team.

I played a good bit of junior sectional and national tournaments but played less the past couple years. I am only looking at Division III schools and all the ones are recruiting me for tennis. The coaches definitely have a pull with admissions and I'm sure it will help.

Divison III doesn't give out athletic scholarships, you have to get in the regular way.... yay for tennis players!!!

Yeah, I think I'm going to go out for the club team at Yale come August.

how do you go about informing division 3 coaches you are interested? any suggestions of division 3 schools that are good academically but not tops in athletics?

tennis recruits for division three...you get recruited by your ranking published by the usta which has a recruitment listing...you must initiate contact but in order to make a case for yourself you should be ranked in the top 250 nationally even for division three....if you are not recruited most schools have tryouts for varsity spots if available or a jv team if they have it...tennis is one of the hardest sports to play in college

"tennis is one of the hardest sports to play in college"

WHY?

All division 3 schools recruit heavily for all sports, and it does in fact help your chances of being admitted.

a lot of people play tennis and the roster for varsity are usually very small around 8-12 compared to other sports that take 20 also with other sports there are factors taken into account like position and team dynamics that tennis does not need to factor in this is why tennis is a harder sport to play in college at the varsity level

I disagree. Top 250 nationally to play D3 is not true at all. Just have some experience at the sectional and district level.

i play tennis! w00t!
