Hi. I just got the notice that for final standings, I'm a few thousandths of a point away from 3rd, which I had shared w/another previously. Effectively, I dropped one rank thanks to truncation vs. rounding. That's legit, but here's the thing.

Additionally, our PE credits are either 4.0 weight or pass/fail if a person takes a sport outside school. The people above me all took pass/fail PE; I took 4.0 PE during the summer and that left 2 additional courses open for me to take 2 more 4.0 semesters' worth of credit during the school year. Effectively, my 4.0 PEs are counted; theirs aren't; if my 4.0 PEs weren't counted, I would have that #3. What are your thoughts on PE graded vs. PE pass/fail? I don't really care about me, what's done is done, but everyone else seems to be up in arms about it and this is suddenly a bigger deal than it should be, so don't blame me for whining, I'm not trying to...I just do want to know what you guys think. Maybe some of you have the same situation. So, again, should PE be just pass/fail if that option is open to those who do sports but not others? Or should those people have that advantage?

Just wondering

Thanks.

Your school should do what my county does. Mandatory gym in your assigned grade level (only 9 and 10) that counts towards your GPA and diploma.

No credit? No diploma. We don't get the option to "exit" out of these credits by playing sports.

The only exception is medical reasons. But students that can be exempt from gym shouldn't be allowed to take an honors or AP class in place of that gym class. That way, no arguements over the valedictorian title...

Yeah, PE is mandatory...that's why I took it in the summer: It's more interesting (climbing on ropes courses!) and it leaves more time in the academic year for other electives. I love music; that's what I took. But that made me have 2 additional credits of only 4.0 that the others who took it pass/fail--because their sports counted--didn't have...which killed me.

I think the "pass/fail" system should be eliminated. The credits should be necessary. In my opinion, a "pass" is not a credit, but an exemption for the credit, since there is no letter grade to be calculated towards your GPA.

But then again, if you're in the top 10, that's impressive enough.

read that...I totally agree with the school. Sure she was in AP, but since she's too dumb to realize she needs more gym credits, she deserves punishment.

gym, health, art, chorus, etc don't count toward our GPA, but if we get a B- or lower in them, even if we have the 3.7, we don't make honor roll. I personally think gym classes are a waste of time for athletes; if you play a sport I think you should be exempt from gym for that particular season. Unfortunately, at my school we have to take gym all 4 years, every semester.

Regarding that link; that's true...not exactly my question, though. What do you think of my question?

All members-whether in a sport or IS-should only have to take PE for the first two semesters of high school. It should not be included in the GPA (it is at my school, as a 2 point, instead of 4 point value), for it is not a real class.

Well, everybody in my school needs 4 years of gym and it counts as a *1 credit but since everybody has it, it doesn't matter. The lowest grade I've heard of in my gym class was an 85 because the highest you can get is a 90 if you miss changing for ONE day, so everyone tries their best to dress every single day and most of the grades are 95+ so it helps most GPAs.
