From those of you that got accepted, do you have any admissions tips for somebody applying next year? I really want to attend Umich, it's in my top 3 choices.

Almost all of the accepted kids have
- >3.8 UW GPA with
- roughly 5 to 6 SCIENCE/Math APs (course rigor)
- and >27 ACT score.

Note that all of the above 3 is a MUST to get accepted

^ Cuz remember, EVERYTHING you read online is true…

My advice is to get involved with ECs related to your projected major, take the most difficult course load you can handle, don’t waste your summer if possible.

Also DON’T blame the university, not being minority, etc. when you get deferred.

You dont have to take AP classes. Just take rigorous classes at your own school. My school had no AP classes, but I still got in. Get a good GPA, good test scores, devote yourself to something youre passionate about in your extracurriculars, and write a good essay.

For Michigan- GPA and rigor of curriculum are the key factors
I would make sure you can clearly explain what attracts you to Michigan- research the departments and even the faculty members’ interests.

Take the most rigorous classes you can do well in. It is not necessary to overwhelm yourself. Involve yourself in things that interest you rather than things you think will impress people. Thing about what you can bring to the University rather than what you can take from it. Apply Early Action.

At my school the accepted applicants seem to always be the ones with the highest standardized test scores. I was just accepted early action and i will be the first to say that my high school performance was less than stellar. I’m talking 3rd decile, 89uw/91w average for all of high school. There are several people who were rejected who i know were in the first and second deciles with equal course rigor to me. The bottom line was that my 34 ACT and 2250 SAT saved me in admissions. So my advice to you is take the hardest courses your school offers and study your ass off for standardized testing. You don’t need a stellar gpa but show that your trying hard by taking whatevers AP’s and Honors courses your school offers.

^^NO, you do need a decent unweighted GPA. yeaabuddy if your GPA was below a 3.7 uw you are very fortunate to have your acceptance. Even the admissions people will tell you they like to see lots of As and some occasional Bs. TinnyT is looking for tips…a decent GPA, ACTs above 27 and some rigor in your course selection is pretty essential for a reasonable shot at acceptance which is what the OP is asking. SOME people do get in with lower GPAs, or lower ACT scores etc., but that isn’t what the OP is asking.

Become a scholarship athlete, then “retire” from sports once accepted. Otherwise you better fall into above average on whatever the class profile ends up since there’ll be even more apps next year, probably 3.8, 30 ACT. Essays, you could talk about what you’d like to get into on campus, or a prof you’d like to take a class with or something that shows you’re highly interested.

Unless you’re an athlete, your GPA is the deciding (and almost the only) factor in your Mich decision.
