Hello everyone, i am looking forward to apply to a top tier university (no ivy leagues) for CS. It is my junior year currently and i need ideas on volunteer work that is related to CS. Im in NHS and i need hours any way. As of now my EC’s are Vex Robotics and TSA including Soccer. I have done a bit of volunteer work recently with Coordinating Vex Robotics Events and STEM research at a local university. I also am starting work as a part time referee for soccer games.
See if you can volunteer with kids STEM camps in your area over the summer.
Talk to your GC, but there are probably more opportunities out there than you realize. For example, our local senior center recruits volunteers both to teach seniors how to use computers, cell phones, and tablets, and to repair their devices. Local charities can always use someone with coding skills. Our library recruits tech volunteers to show folks how to use the tech resources the library offers, to set up new offerings, and to run programs for patrons of all ages. The high school hires tech-knowledgeable students to set up iPads for incoming freshmen and to run a volunteer help desk during the school year. Those are only some of the possibilities out there. Good luck!
You don’t have to do CS ECs to get into college.
Do what is interesting to you!
