I was just wondering how to make my application as impressive as possible whenever I apply?? I'm only a sophomore in high school, and I just would like some tips ahead of time! How do I write good essays, or make my EC's as impressive as possible?? What do I have to focus on when I apply?? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

GPA, class rank, & SAT/ACT scores within the average range for the College within Cornell you are applying to. Excellence, leadership, & commitment in your EC’s. Demonstrate “fit” for your intended major through your essays. Take the most rigorous courses offered at your school. If you are sure Cornell is your #1 choice & you can afford it, apply Early Decision. Attend the information session at the college you apply to and hope that luck is with you!

apply Early Decision.

Thank you!

Do something extraordinary in a field/occupation that you’re passionate about. That’s the best way to stand out amidst the legions of top scores. (Assuming you will also get a top score)

be lucky…

For your personal statement - link your personal experiences with what you want to study. You’re pretty much applying for a specific major or program (unless you’re undecided in A&S). The good thing is, if you go to Cornell and realize you don’t actually like your major, you can transfer colleges or majors.

Also, aside from your application, make sure Cornell is a good fit! Take a tour at some point, and also sign up to be hosted overnight with Red Carpet Society so you can get a taste of college life. It sounds cliche, but being there really helps you figure out if it’s where you want to be.

I 100% agree with lichte94.

Write an amazing essay.
The essay is where you need to express your interest of study and how Cornell is the best place for you to study that interest. Cornell is big on “fit” within many their colleges. Make sure that you can clearly show why that college is the one for you.

This is your chance to make yourself come alive. Separate yourself from the rest of the applicants. And please DO NOT write an essay based on what you think they want to hear. It needs to be genuine.

Im interested in applying ED to HumEc as a HBHS major, does anyone have any information on competitiveness, or tips on getting accepted to this particular major/college?

develop relationships with teachers really well so they can write you really strong letter of recs
