Any tips for getting off the UCLA waitlist?

Hi everyone! I found out today I got waitlisted for UCLA. I'm pretty upset over it, but now I'm really determined to get off the waitlist. Does anyone have any tips? Should I send in letters of rec?
When I click the acceptance waitlist option thing, it says this: "OPTIONAL: You may provide your fall semester grades, your spring course schedule, and/or any additional information you wish to provide (max 7000 characters). (View example)" Is there anything in particular that I should mention?

Also, would you mind letting me know what chances I have for making it off the waitlist? (if that's possible, if it's too unpredictable, I completely understand!) Here's my stats and EC's:
Weighted GPA (10-12): 4.36
Unweighted: 3.84
SAT: 2130 in a single sitting, 2190 superscore
AP Scores: Calc AB: 5 Bio: 4 US History: 3

Extra curriculars:
Junior State of America: Activism Liaison, Director of Activism, and Speaker of the Assembly (3rd in command of state)
Kiva microfinance club co-president
Student Government: ASB School Board Representative, Junior Class Treasurer
Ice hockey: only girl on all boys full contact ice hockey team for past three years, currently youth coach
Also teaching civic ed classes at my local middle school right now
Work Experience:
Internship at Senator Leland Yee's Office
Job at a local candy shop
Is any of that worth mentioning or further emphasizing as additional information?

Sorry that was a lot of questions feel free to answer all or none or do whatever your heart pleases, thank you so much!

From the waitlist FAQ: Can I send letters of recommendation or other documents?
No. To be fair to all applicants, additional materials (including letters of recommendation) cannot be accepted and will not be reviewed if sent.

I was also waitlisted, good luck!

Thank you so much! Best of luck to you as well! (:

@sillymicheleeee - I can’t believe you we’re wait listed! You should be at the top of that list for Poli Sci. You must have gotten in to other great schools with your stats. What are your other options if you don’t mind sharing?

@nutthins Yeah, I’m trying really hard not to be bitter about it, but I was definitely really surprised. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly I did wrong or what I was missing, but I’m also super determined to get off that waitlist now, too. I got into UCD, UCSD, and middlebury, and was waitlisted at Uchicago. Still waiting to hear back from Stanford, Brown, Upenn, Williams, UC Berkeley, Duke, Vanderbilt, and a few others, but UCLA was my top since I live in state and the tuition is like $30,000 less than privates plus amazing academics and a beautiful campus.

I remember the feeling of being wait listed. In my waitlist letter, I included my fall semester grades and listed my spring semester grades all as IP (in progress). Then I wrote the essay portion which included leadership position updates, why I want to go to UCLA, and the opportunities/ways I’d get involved if accepted off the waitlist.

My son was WLd last year. He included his Fall semester grades (which were perfect with 5 APs) and some awards/activities he had done since sending in the application. He was admitted off the first wave of admissions, but ended up going to Berkeley.

@TheEarlyBird did you happen to get accepted off the waitlist?

Yes I did. And now I’m a first-year student here

Congrats on getting off the waitlist! Do you happen to know around the percentage of students that were admitted off the waitlist last year? And when did you find out?

I’m not sure about the percentage of people admitted off the wait list. But it all depends on their yield that year. If less people accept their acceptance than expected, they’ll pull more off them waitlist. I heard back from them on May 7th.

You did nothing wrong and everything right! Admissions decisions are so unpredictable and illogical these days. I’m sure you noticed other students with lesser stats and ECs getting in, which compelled me to respond to you. You have a great shot at getting off the wait list so go for it! My daughter was rejected from ucla, but is okay since she was accepted to her next two top colleges, ucsb and calpoly slo (she loves the central coast) and really hopes now to get her grad degree at ucla! She applied to uci as a safety but didn’t get in - weird since they have a higher admit rate then ucsb and cp slo, and she saw people with lower stats get into uci (go figure). You have excellent options regardless of what happens. Your hard work and dedication have paid off.

@theearlybird thanks for letting me know! @nutthins honestly, thank you so much for taking the time to respond. It really does make me feel better about the situation. Congrats to your daughter for getting into some amazing schools! @teamwaitlist sorry about getting on the waitlist, I know how awful it feels. It seems like you have lots of ecs and good grades though so you have a great chance of getting off!

I was waitlisted also!
any other tips on what to write for the extra info?

@dmoneybags I e-mailed my counselor (used to read essays for UC Berkeley applicants) and he responded with this: “if you can provide information to UCLA (when you opt in for the waiting list) about how you did last semester in a really rigorous schedule of classes and any other activities or roles you have taken on this year, that would hopefully show the admissions office that you continue to work hard and push yourself. Also, if you have visited the campus, had any contact with admissions officers, or attended any events or took any steps to further your knowledge about UCLA, you should mention that as well. The more that you show the school that you truly know this is the campus for you, the better.”

So it sounds like basically mention grades, any other leadership positions, and talk about interest in UCLA?
Hopefully that helps you a little! Best of luck to you! (:

@sillymichelleeee Thank you for your helpful post

Hey guys,
I was also waitlisted. I feel horrible but it is what it is. Here are stats and ECs:

UW GPA: 4.0
W GPA: 4.3
SAT: 2310
SAT II: Math 2(800), chemistry(750)
EC: soccer for two years before I switched my school senior year.
Volunteer at ucla Ronald Reagan Medical Center for 120 hrs
Research at an anesthesiology lab at ucla over the summer
Math tutor at school
Overall around 400 hrs of community service
Besides all of that, I moved to the U.S. about three years ago from Iran and I barely knew any English. I didn’t know what AP, GPA, or anything college-related meant. So I have accomplished all of this in a matter of three years and I wasn’t accepted. Don’t wanna sound arrogant or anything but I seriously think it wasn’t fair. Anyways, good luck to you guys all.

@areegh I am also Iranian. I moved here at 8th grade. Kudos you are much smarter than me  I was also waitlisted. I didn’t anything above the U.S. system either and I also believe that this was not fair at all. We are already competing with students who have spent all their lives here, and we don’t get in while others with much lower stats and ECs do. There is no doubt that you will be successful anywhere you choose to go. Don’t lose hope and don’t let this college decision bring you down (I know it will be difficult to do so). Best of luck. Khodahafez

@sillymichelleeee thanks for the useful advice! good luck to you too! :)
