Hi everyone,
In my state, for everyour year you attend a public high school, you must also have a physical education class. Aside from the fact that it takes up much needed space in my schedule, it also brings about one more dilemma: I’m just not good at gym.
And then in team sports, like our last unit (volleyball) I freak out that I’m going to ruin things for my team and then I get nervous and then I play even worse than I would have had I not been so nervous.
We get graded on participation, skill development, and a quiz on the rules, for each unit. I tend to get 90s in participation, but last week I got an 85, which dropped my grade to an 88.8. I can’t get a b in gym!
I just checked and it’s up to a 91.something today because of the rules quiz but I’m just so scared!
Does anyone have any tips? Thanks so much!
Whenever you can, aim the ball at people you dislike.
Not really, although that is what I do. There’s not really much you can do. Maybe ask friends who play the sport for pointers.
Just try your hardest. Don’t overthink when playing sports, just do it. Don’t second guess yourself and don’t think of yourself as a liability. I used to be awful at sports, but as I played more often, I got better. It’ll just come to you naturally, do not stress about it. Good luck!
As long as you put a decent effort, pay attention and stay off your phone you should be fine.
I had this problem, too… The lowest grade I’ve ever gotten is from gym! (That was in middle school, though. I get to take gym as an independent study now, which is heavenly. I just have to log 65 hours of physical activity!)
My advice is to make sure you’re always paying attention and trying. As long as you aren’t conspicuously slacking, the teacher probably won’t downgrade you on participation. You could also talk to your teacher about your concerns and explain why you may appear to be participating less. Your teacher also might be willing to offer you some extra credit for a project on the history of sports or muscle anatomy or something like that. Maybe you could do a physical activity like yoga or biking and log it for extra credit. Some teachers are more generous than others about EC, though, so I don’t know.
Good luck!
